The girls and I are doing Brisbane, Cairns Cooktown, Cape york, I like to meet up with other 4x4 that would like to do OTT. starting from Cooktown or Bramwell Junction.  
we will leave Cooktown 30/6 and work the way up to Bramwell Junction, and use that as basecamp before heading in to The Old Telegraph Track

I did this trip in 2006 on dirt bikes.... What a brilliant trip it will be..... Don't underestimate the challenges ... Be very well prepared... And allow plenty of time .... Lifts / winch / snorkel / min ATs and a few spare parts.... Ideally don't tow but experience will count if you do.... Wish I could come but just too busy.... Maybe 2017

Did this 18 months ago. The Thursday Island 2nd world war tour is great but could be expensive with a family. There is a wealth of information here - http://www.cape-york-australia.com/ . A travel guide with loads of information is available also.
We towed a camper without issue. Can recommend Bramwell Station for an over night stop. If you time it right they have live music at times, meals and the cold drinks are handy. Camp at the far end of the camp ground to stay away from the party people though.
Are you doing the OTT? We did it late in the season and found it easy. Palm Creek was the biggest challenge followed by gunshot and Nolans was not at all difficult. However a 200 series Cruiser was drowned the same day we crossed.
