Hi All,
Assuming regional COVID restrictions are lifted I'd like to run a beginners/novice weekend trip early December to the Woods Point area 150k's east of Melbourne.
This trip will be totally suitable for anyone who who has limited to no 4WD experience as it's well maintained gravel roads plus good tracks (that will require low range) but no wheel lifting or heavily rutted sections we can't go around. My 18YO son will also be coming on this as first time novice 4WD outing so the pace will be relaxed. Plenty of time for that photo op outside the Woods Point servo too on Sunday morning.
Vehicle requirements: Low range with All Terrain-type tyres. No suspension lift is required for this trip although 2" is always a good option if you've got it. But not needed for this trip, don't rush out and buy it.
Must have rated recovery points front and rear, not a towball and factory tie-down points !
Tyre pressure gauge as we'll be airing down at a designated point so a good opportunity to feel how your car reacts to lower tyre pressure on the tracks, a 12v compressor (Kings Thumper or Thumper max are a cost effective compressor if you have to get one before we go) and a snatch strap, and 2 rated bow or soft shackles. plus riggers gloves. These should be your minimum recovery gear requirements at all times too.
A GPS navigator with your 'home' set is always a good idea in case the party has to split for mechanical or any unknown reason and you need to find your way out of the bush- good news is all 'branded' GPS units will follow these tracks easily as they are well defined.
Fuel, a full tank of petrol or diesel for around 150klms of bush driving- last fuel stop is Warburton on Saturday morning.
Bring a warm change of clothes as it can get chilly, swag or tent, torch, plus warm sleeping bag and raincoat in case
Will need lunch for Saturday and Sunday, main meal Saturday night can be at Woods Point pub or self catered around a campfire, lets have ideas on numbers interested in a pub meal as we'd be best to book in advance. Self-serve breakfast Sunday morning.
No pets or children under 10 please.
Responsible alcohol consumption on Saturday night is expected as we have to drive on Sunday morning so P-platers have to be 0.00 and the rest of us under 0.05 and the local constabulary are ever present.
If you have a chainsaw pleas bring it as we'll need firewood for Saturday night yarning about the days exploits and challenges conquered.!
Hope to see you with a sense of adventure and willingness to learn and get those tyres dirty !
