4x4 / Touring Trip for beginners and newbies to 4wding EASY / MEDIUM

Rubicon and Eildon area, VIC

See more trips
Hi all, I am running a touring 4x4 trip from Rubicon to Eildon. This trip is suitable for those who are new to 4wding. We will be taking a scenic route starting from Healsville and head north to Rubicon. There will be a lot of opportunities to stop and take photos along the way. This trip is suitable for all age and children. We will take some easy tracks around Eildon area. There may be couple medium tracks if the group would like to try. Otherwise, we will stick to the easy tracks.

Although this is a beginner trip, you should have some basic gear for this trip
1. Basic recovery gear (Snatch strip, shackles)
2. UHF Radio / Handheld UHF
3. Recover points (front and back)
4. All-Terrain tyres

Note: Your vehicle should be a proper 4wd with low range. All wheel drive such as RAV4 are not suitable.

Other important items (You can get them all easily from auto shop such as Super Cheap Auto) include:
- Tyre deflator (To air down)
- Compressor (To air up)
- UHF Radio (Handheld)
- Torch
- Recovery Hitch
- First aid kit

In additional, I always suggest 4wders to carry below:
- Chainsaw
- Plenty of water (5L)
- Shovel

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Hello all, thank you for joining this trip. Although it's still a week away, please start thinking of how to prepare for this trip. This is an easy/medium trip. If the weather is wet, it will be likely to be medium meaning you should have recovery gear (e.g. Recovery snatch strap, 2 rated blow / soft shackles) ready.

Other important items (You can get them all easily from auto shop such as Super Cheap Auto) include:
- Tyre deflator (To air down)
- Compressor (To air up)
- UHF Radio (Handheld)
- Torch
- Recovery Hitch
- First aid kit

In additional, I always suggest 4wders to carry below:
- Chainsaw
- Plenty of water (5L)
- Shovel

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Hi all, just a quick update. The plan has been slightly changed. Instead of heading to Big River, we will drive more tracks in Rubicon/Eildon area. We should be able to finish the trip at Eildon Dam https://goo.gl/maps/XJHBn5SVohmjuWYv9

Since we have fairly big group, it will be a slow going so please keep that in mind and be considerate.

Please double check your vehicle and try to get some of the gear before the trip.

The weather forecast is looking great so far.

If any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Hi everyone again. Looks like this trip is extremely popular. Sorry you are not on our GOING list yet. I have invited couple personal friends, thus you see some of them are here. We will also have an experienced trip leader as our charles (the last car in the group) to help manage the big convoy.

If you cannot make it to this trip, please do withdraw to make room for others.

Finally, if anyone would like to try out my new navigation app "Dirt Map", please let me know and I will send you an invitation (for iPhone/iPad) only. It's still a prototype but should be very useful for your 4wding.

Hi all, unfortunately my patrol may have developed a leaky fuel pump. I have just discovered this tonight. I will see if I can pinpoint where the leak is coming from tomorrow morning. Pauly has kindly offered assistance to help lead this trip. He will be in his Prado, and he is on the list as well. Fingercross tomorrow, I am still hoping to lead this trip and meeting all of you.

Hi all, thank you so much for Pauly to lead the trip. Unfortunately my patrol is out of action due to the leaky fuel pump. (FYI, this is the original fuel pump that has served me well for over 18 years, after 460k kms), so Nissan has no issue :) ... have fun tomorrow, and I am sure you will like the area, and plenty to see and explore.
Pauly and Sean will camp, and if anyone who are thinking to camp on Sat, you may want to reach out to them.
