Toolangi Day Trip - Melb Cup Weekend. MEDIUM / HARD

Toolangi State Forest, VIC

See more trips

With most track seasonal closures finished, will head up to Toolangi to drive my usual loop of the area. All going well tracks will include Rocky, Lyndalls, Martins, Campsite, Downies, Lukes, Cockpit and possibly Blowhard. Before you join and/or express interest in this trip, please note the following criteria that is non negotiable.

MINIMUM VEHICLE/DRIVER REQUIRMENTS.:

Tyres- 32" (preferably mud). All vehicles MUST have a winch and basic recovery gear (snatch strap/shackles etc), UHF radio & rated recovery points.

Drivers must be experienced as this is NOT a trip for 'newbies' or those with limited experience.

Also, if you are someone who loves playing in mud/bog holes etc, do not join, as on my trips we avoid both unless we have no option.

As with all my trips, confirmation that you are attending is required, so all drivers must 'CHECK IN' and in this case cut off time will be midday on Saturday Nov 3rd. If you do not check in, you will be removed from the trip and someone else given the opportunity to take part.

From our meeting place in Yarra Glen, I expect to cover aprox 100 klms on the day, (high percentage in low range), so ensure you have enough fuel for the day. All fuel types are available in Yarra Glen. We will have a short lunch break during the day, so bring you lunch/drinks etc with Yarra Glen having 2 good bakeries to purchase these items if need be. At this stage I am limiting number to 4 as I am saving 2 spots for 'regulars', (the 2 Matts), and if they do join the trip with it limited to 4 , I will increase numbers to 6.

Any questions, feel free to ask.

PS: If we have heavy rain leading up to the day, I may postpone the trip to another date.

Yes it was Pauly. Whilst some may not agree, but there are 2 members who are joining the trip who have not participated in other trips, so I will need to confirm their experience

Looks like the weather will be ok on Sunday; about 23-24 degrees. Let's hope we get a little bit of rain in the next day or so to help 'settle the dust'.

Hmm, good condition 32" AT's or the worn 33" muddies...1st world problems!

Am sure you will make the right call Matt.

Unfortunately I had to remove a participate who failed to 'check in' to confirm their attendance, so a spot is now available.

Went out to swap to the muddies for the clearance, but on closer inspection I'm going to stick with the AT's. Found a couple tyres with some +5mm cuts/chunks in the side wall and I recall Matt's warning earlier in the year about his blowout. 6.5 years old, time to throw them out.

Just need work to not be flat out so i can take a half day off to get to a tyre shop hehe.

But that blow out was Federal Courager MT, know to be good value for money for the first half of the tire life but crack between the treads something shocking.
I also need new muddies and will not buy them again, Toyo open country next, great price and good reviews

Another great trip Al, thanks again and for everyone making for a good day out.

The recoveries didn't make it Al, camera stopped filming by itself due to low battery. The second, it would have shut down only 30 seconds to 1 minute prior I reckon.

The 32" AT's worked ok for most of the day but just weren't tall enough on Cockpit. Trying to drag the patrol over obstacles rather than simply driving. I think passing on Lyndell's was a good idea going by my clearance issues on Cockpit.

Glad you enjoyed it Matt, and was great to catch up again. Time to go buy those new muddies.

Good to meet you Ray and hope you and Xavier enjoyed the 'afternoon activities'. Hope that dent in the 200 isnt too hard to repair.
