(Another) Lerderderg and Wombat Run EASY / MEDIUM

Wombat State Forest, VIC

See more trips

This will be a similar trip to my last trip that was done Sunday 22nd April so my missus can attend. Will take a few different tracks but most will be the same.. depending on the weather and the cars that turn up I might take more or less challanging tracks. Some tracks will be good challange for some but nothing will be too hard unless wet.

All big bogs will have relatively easy chicken tracks.

Planning another trip up Wombat / Lerderderg, if we go all the way we should finish up near Daylesford. Will mostly be some easy tracks, especially if tracks are dry and not wet. If wet they should be a bit of fun and some tracks might be medium. I will be trying out my new Patrol, so won't be tackling anything crazy.

I will be following some tracks from previous trips and towards the end if time permits we might visit a Hut, don't want to finish trip late and into the dark. Aiming to finish around 4.30PM

Please note that pin stripes and vehicle damage may occur please be prepared as Wombat is unpredictable.

If tracks are wet, there will be mud for sure. If mud is not really your thing, this might not be your kind of trip. I won't be tackling waist deep bog holes - but mud will be thrown around for sure.

Be prepared and read description properly so you won't be disappointed. This trip will be mostly easy if dry - should be fairly ok with good tyres and dry tracks. All goes to plan we will cross the whole wombat / lerderderg east to west through tracks, and if time permits we will hit a few kms of bitument to make it up to Daylesford where we will hit a few dirt roads to find La Fanchi Hut.. this is only if time permits.

Recommended Setup

  • 32 inch muddies or aggressive A/T (No HT)
  • 2 inch lift
  • WORKING WINCH is a must just in case.
  • Front and Rear recovery points
  • Extensive Recovery Kit in good condition (Snatch strap, extension strap, snatch block, dampener, shackles etc)

Meeting Point

10.30AM - Will be a bit of a late start (so please be on time) as Saturday night will be a late night for me.. so will need the extra ZZZ and everyone loves a bit of a sleep in on a Sunday (well I do)

As always everyone comes at their own risk. You are responsible for your vehicle, yourself and your passengers. I will not push anyone to do anything they are not comfortable with and a winch can come in handy (hence required) if something goes wrong. It is for your own safety. If you require any assistance on the tracks or a spot - just ask.

Trip will be cancelled if it's raining too much or weather turns to shit.

Hi Thurstain, do you have a rough estimate of finish time and location?

All details in the trip description mate. Depending on how we're doing for time we might finish on Daylesford Ballan road, or if we have time up Daylesford if you want to see the hut (again if we have time).

My aim in 4.30pm.

Yesterday we finished 6.30pm and we skipped 2 planned tracks.. But everyone was having fun talking to each other and stuff so we took it easy had a long lunch and everything and spent a good 1.5hrs up at the hut.

If your restricted, you can always leave early.. Plenty of dirt roads that lead out but plan is at least Ballan Daylesford Rd at 4.30 which should get you on western freeway within 15 mins

Thankyou, i have no where yo be, i was just seeing where we might finish and what time i might get home. Is the hut something iconic that's worth seeing?

Well, the hut we saw yesterday was pretty good.. And there is another hut I discovered today through some online research and talking to people in the vicinity of it which is a bit more hidden...

The one we visited yesterday was this one

It's a nice hut but, depends if you appreciate those things or not. It's not like of massive importance and heritage but it is heritage and I like to discover these things out in the bush.

I normally bring a chainsaw however with my sister and nephews in the Fj which is tiny , I won’t be able to have one in case of emergency.
I don’t think we will need one however if anyone wants to bring one - feel free to do so.

Shame everyone had to back out. The rest of us will still have some fun maybe cover more tracks and maybe visit 2 huts instead of one as we might have more time with less cars.

Just please bring recovery gear and make sure everything is in order since we're only gonna be 3 cars. Would like to tackle at least one challenging uphill track depending how we feel tomorrow.

See you all tomorrow morning.
