Tallarook day trip MEDIUM / HARD

Tallarook, VIC

See more trips
Just a rerun for me of the tougher tracks at Tallarook. Taking in Phone and Steep Tracks plus a few others. Winch just be in good working order, clearance - would recommend 2"+, good tyres 33" minimum, suggest a locker or two. I'm on 35s and know of at least one spot I'll most likely need to winch. Recovery gear and rated points mandatory.

There are some tough sections but not too hard for intermediate drivers looking to step up to harder tracks.

Bring lunch and drinks for the day.

Good to see this fill quickly.

This is the Google maps pin for meeting point, it's right next to the southbound exit ramp off the Hume.

Bugger another great trip I will be away for.
Steep is insane at the moment and I would say un drivable going up unless bone dry with massive tyres and twin locked with a bit of luck thrown in.
Phone never changes.
Dave, I noticed you have a D4 and stated as having front and rear lockers, I was unaware of anyone doing lockers for D3 or 4"s. I have a D4 3l as well as the D1 toy and would be very keen on getting some details on the lockers you have and how they affect the terrain response system.

Hi Winston, do you have a rough estimate of finish time and location for this trip?
23 Apr 2018
Stephan (Dmop85)
I see I'm the only poor bloke without lockers. I hope I don't hold the group back.

Time - could be 3pm, could be 6pm. Depends how much driving vs winching happens. I did most of the tracks planned about a month ago with 2 other vehicles and we were done in maybe 4 hours. Finish will be on Ennis Rd which leads straight out to the Hume.

See how you go mate. Good lsd in the patrol, will help. But there's a couple of tracks that you'll definitely be winching. Make sure you check your winch this week.

No worries. Several good campgrounds around. We will be airing up very close to Freemans.

Bugger James. Another time.

No worries Alisha. Best to play it safe, the tracks planned are definitely for experienced drivers. And there really aren't any chicken paths on them either, or if there are it's the difference between still being hard and "are you insane?".

Don't worry. I'm doing it in an IFS vehicle. You've got a patrol. You'll be fine. Just make sure your winch is working fine this arvo.

Jezza, hopefully I show you some new ones mate.

Guys just to be clear about this trip, some of it will be tough but not ridiculously hard. It's nothing like some of the stuff at Cobaw.

I drove phone track at night maybe 6 weeks ago without the need for lockers (actually drove the first 3rd of it in 2wd. Wondered why I couldn't climb up a very basic step up... 🙄)

There's one track off Tehans 2 which is pretty nasty and can be optional as the go around to the top is very straightforward. Steep Track has several lines to pick from, overall is just a very rutted climb but good spotting will get you through.

Don't want to scare anyone off coming!
