This day trip will be a drive covering most of the compact Tallarook State Forest. Whilst I have rated this trip as 'medium', it will be suitable for people who have limited experience, who have never been to Tallarook before, or those who have, who are happy to have a reasonably easy day of enjoyable 4wding.

Those who are looking for the 'challenging stuff', such as Phone and Steep Tracks, dont bother joining or expressing interest in this trip.

All vehicles must have the following 'MINIMUM' requirements;

Low Range, so no SUV's.

30" A/T or mud tyres, NO H/T TYRES.

Basic Recovery Gear - Snatch Strap, Shackles etc. Winch is advantageous, but not mandatory.

UHF Radio - either incar or hand held.

Bring your lunch/drinks etc as plan is to stop at the dam for a short lunch break. There are no toilet facilities in the area we are driving. Please have enough fuel for the day to cover aprox 100 klms of mainly low range driving. Depending where you are coming from, fuel available in Yarra Glen or along the Hume Hwy.

CHECK IN. (Friday Feb 16th - midday at the latest)

As with all my trips, if you fail to 'check in' by the stipulated time to confirm your attendance, YOU WILL BE REMOVED FROM TRIP. Also, if you are one of the many who regularly join a trip then pull out at the last minute, dont bother joining, as I will ask you to withdraw from the trip, ( I do have a list of those who do this and of those who fail to 'check in'.)

All going well, we will be back on the 'black top' by 4.30pm. Any questions' feel free to ask.

PLEASE NOTE: If weather is unfavourable re; too hot/total fire ban or extremely wet, the trip will be postponed till another date.

Mate I won't be able to join. I have to work. To those who are going you could not be in better hands as I am sure everyone who knows Alan will agree. I will spray a can of ARB sun shower just enough to keep the dust down. Have a great day mate.

P.S. don't get lost in the pine forest like I did.

That's a 'bugger' you cant make it 'Big Kev', as I thought you would have been one of the 1st to join. Well it did fill fast and thanks to everyone who has joined. Looks like another big day for you Outrage; great to have you along as usual. Good to see Tony join up; looking forward to seeing him and the new Patrol. Just hoping it wont be too boring for him, as we wont be doing some of the stuff we have done in the past

Shame a few had to drop out, but unfortunately is the 'norm' with the majority of trips on this site these days. Long term forecast is possibly a shower on the Tuesday, so expect tracks to be dry and dusty.

Again, need to be at the water tank meeting point by 9.45am at the LATEST, and when you arrive drop your tyre pressures there.

Let's hope we get a bit of rain over the next day or two to at least settle the dust. Not all that promising but Saturday is meant to be nice and sunny with a temp of about 28 degrees.

Have planned the route and we will be driving a couple of tracks I have not done before, so there might be the odd U turn from time to time. Again, please be at the meeting point by 9.45am at the latest and air down when you get there and also remember to 'check in'. I think check in will be available later tonight or sometime tomorrow. Hopefully it will be an enjoyable day. Any questions, feel free to ask.

Hope you all enjoyed the day and was great to meet you all. Real shame about Adam's Navara; hope it doesnt cost big $$$ to fix.

Have added a few photos, mostly of you guys playing in the mud.

Thanks again Al, another great day. Patrol's all cleaned, yes I actually cleaned it within the same weekend of the trip! Been a while since that has happened hehe.

Bugger for Adam though. Hindsight is a bitch as they say, looking back we really needed to do the track building I wanted. The utes really lack the flex to not have a locker (and a bit fragile), have been passenger in a ute with an experienced driver, it took surprisingly little to get it to spin/lift wheels without the locker engaged, but with it on it just crawled up the rocks, things a fairly stock 60 series cruiser with a new driver drove no problem. Same thing with the Dmax's and BT50's I drive in the mines for work, doesn't take much to lift a wheel/loose traction compared to the patrol (the BT50's we have at least have a rear locker though for backup).

Have put some pics up, might be a week or two before I get the video sorted. By the way Al, the section you were 'stuck', I really think you just didn't want to spin the tyres so the Paj didn't get mud on it :)

You are right Matt. Could have kept going back & forward and eventually diff would have freed itself. Was a good call on my behalf I reckon: the cleanest the paj has ever been after having to go through that crap called mud....lol

BTW, some nice pics.

Not doing reports anymore 'Big Kev'. Not worth the time & effort as forum is not utilised by members these days plus having to wait for it to be reviewed etc.

No worries mate I understand, a lot of work goes to doing a report and get few comments in the forum these days. it seems to be only a few regular people comment on the reports. Had me worried when I did my last report whether I had lost it waitng for it to be reviewed, which had happened in the past. I also don't understand why it would need to be reviewed.

Yes, it was a good day with a bunch of good guys Gazza. As I said, shame about Adam's drama but other than that, only a couple of muddy vehicles at the end of the day; especially the Ranger.

Outrage took some video, so hopefully he will post it when he does the editing etc.
