Woods Point Exploring MEDIUM / HARD

Woods Point, Vic, VIC

See more trips

Hi all.

Heading up to Woods Point for a look around and explore some tracks.

At this stage looking to camp at Scott’s Reserve Friday night and hit the tracks Saturday stopping along the way for lunch and then back to camp in the afternoon. Maybe grab some wood on the way for a nice warm fire.

Aim to leave for home mid to late Sunday morning.

Meet up at the Healsville Caltex at 5pm or at the campsite itself if others wanted to head up earlier in the day.

Have been to Woods Point before on day trips but couldn’t say I know the area so it would very much be playing it by ear and heading onto some tracks that look good on Hema.

I've listed it as Medium/Hard as I'm not sure what to expect and would rather be prepared. It's possible we'll stumble on some challanging tracks and hopefully some snow.

A/T tyres a must as well as recovery gear.

From Woods point a good loop is up Old Coach, down German Town spur, up Knockwood (or Moonlight on some maps) over Mt Matlock and down Pheasant Creek/ Dearlove that will take you all day if you amble along and be OK even if its wet, have fun ! If you get back early go through Comet Flat, up Johnson hill then bear right back to the Walhalla Rd and take the Noble Spur track back to Comet Flat although that can be slippery in 2 spots if its wet threre's still ruts to guide you.

Rooftops maps are the best all those tracks above are clearly marked let me know if I can help on track info on any others done most of them over the last 30+ years and still love the area. Explored them all on motorbikes in the day poked our front wheels down 'a lot' some are gone and closed since then, although Woods Point itself has declined a bit in the last 15 years or so the tracks are still great !

Thanks Alex, Had a look at the tracks you suggested and have marked them with the exception of Moonlight which is marked as seasonally closed but looks like we wont be short of tracks to suss out. :)

I don't think that's correct there were no gates there a few months ago I've never seen it seasonally closed but good luck and have fun !

Just because there are no gates doesn't mean squat, not all closed tracks are gated and some are only gated at one end. Check the government web site to save a heap of grief if you get to the end and find a gate or get nabbed by parks vic. Its as much as a $4000 fine for driving closed tracks.
Would love to join you but cant get away for the whole weekend, am considering coming up later Friday and heading home Saturday night.

Yep that's it. I don't go down any closed tracks, spoils it for everyone else eventually.. I'm only going on Hema maps at the moment which had it listed as seasonally closed but I'll check up on the web before we head off.
