James you can fill up in Rosedale or Maffra they are about 50 minutes from cabins but with 150 litres you should be fine, remember it's not a race .

Hello everyone, just got an update from my mate who knows someone working in DSE in that area....they said that Billy Goat Track is opened currently....but they may be closed if really bad weather...as the track was not safe to drive ....it has some sections with big drop off..... so all good so far!.....

Welcome everyone who has joined this trip, some people call me anal I say I'm thorough if I am travelling to an area I haven't travelled to before I will buy a map of that area,I now have quite a collection, I find them handy to cross reference my electronic maps, the map that covers this trip is Roof Tops Dargo- Wonnangatta adventure map ( north Gippsland ).

Wow, just one more car and this trip will be full. So for those who are interested, get in quick or you will have to buy Allan a drink to take you :)

Just a suggestion, for those who have joined the trip, please can you post here if you are planning to share a cabin with others or you plan to occupy your own cabin. Also state how many people are coming. This should help with booking and logistic.......

Well thank you to everybody who has joined this trip, it is now full how ever if interested put your name down, a space might become available now it's up to me to make sure every one has a good time ,stays safe and we all get to drive some awesome tracks. Don't forget to book your cabins direct with Wombat Valley Cabins.

We will be traveling deep into the High Country and we must show the respect this place deserves by leaving no rubbish behind and staying on the tracks where ever possible.

Mien and Jack (DutchDuo)
Hi guys,
Delete my previous message re cabin. We have booked a 6 persons cabin and Donella just emailed me this:

Thanks for the email, if you have the cabin booked you are able to have upto 6 people stay in the cabin, it becomes too confusing for me to book your cabin to other people, if you would like them to stay with you it would be best if you arrange this amongst yourselves. The extras are $20 per night per adult and you can divide the costs accordingly. If you decide to have extra people stay in your cabin just send me an email and we will adjust the payment when you arrive. I have also attached payment details to confirm your booking what to bring and a map to get here.

So we have room for 4 more people....be mindful..we both snore!!
Please let me know if you're needing a bed....

spoke to Allan last night, we will wing it and sort a place to sleep once we get there, will only be 2 of us so should be easy to find a spare bedroom, hopefully wont have to work to late on the friday arvo to get there at a reasonable time, more than likely after dinner , about 8.30 to 9.00 ish I would guess.

With most people sharing there cabins in one way or another I think the fairest way to cost it would be to split the total cabin cost between the people staying in them so the cabins that are full will be the cheapest per head.
29 Aug 2014
Kelvin (TREXGQ) Premium Member
Yes Al, I think everyone should just share the total cost equally.
29 Aug 2014
Matthew (discomatt)
I would think that was a given, can't expect to pay $20 when the bloke in the next room pays $90
Can't wait should be a great trip with good wheeling and company

Not long now, I am looking forward to meeting everyone, I surely hope that everyone who has ticked the " I'm going " button turn up because hardly a day goes by that someone on the short list does not ring me pleading to get on this trip, it would be disappointing and extremely poor form if someone for what ever reason didn't turn up with out letting me know in reasonable time.
See you all Friday.

CHECK LIST (Before a day out or during large trips.)
If you plan a large trip I recommend either a service or you get your mechanic to look over your vehicle.
1. Check fluid and oil level
o Engine oil
o Coolant level (check the reserve bottle as well)
o Power steering fluid
o Brake fluid
o Washer bottle

2. Do a visual look over the entire engine area. Look for worn hoses or any obvious wearing parts etc.
3. Check under your vehicle (on the ground) for leaks over night before you move your vehicle.
4. It is always a good idea to check suspension nuts and bolts and general fittings. Especially if you have been on long corrugated dirt roads.
5. Handbrake is very important and MUST hold the vehicle on a steep hill.
6. Carry spare water and oil for vehicle.
7. On larger trips ensure you carry often used parts, like CV joint, bearings and similar items that can break easy. Carry tools to be able to change them on a track as well.
8. It can be very expensive to get recovery from remote location, so it is best to carry as much parts as you can without going overboard.
