A day in Toolangi. MEDIUM / HARD

Toolangi State Forest, VIC

See more trips

This trip will be one of my favourite loops in the Toolangi State Forest. Most of the tracks will be medium but I have rated this trip 'medium/hard' in the event we drive Rocky Track, but this will be discussed with everyone at the meeting point before a final decision is made. All other tracks are suitable for drivers with some experience and vehicles should have a minimum of 31" tyres being either A/T's or muddies, (no road tyres). No SUV's on this trip, as low range will be required for the majority of tracks we will be driving.

Whilst a winch is preferred, it is not mandatory but all participant MUST have basic recovery gear, (snatch strap, shackles etc), and a UHF radio, either incar or hand held.

The day will be a fun day out with the odd challenge, but nothing that will be 'vehicle breaking/damaging' or 'pucker moment' type stuff. If looking for big bog holes etc, dont join this trip, but there will be the possibility that we will encounter a couple of easy ones along the way. Forecast is for a reasonably warm day so I am hoping we are all on our way home by 4pm at the latest. There is some rain forecast for Thursday, but at best it might reduce some of the dust if we are lucky.

I know this is reasonably late notice, but hopefully a few will join the trip.

Matthew (discomatt)
can't get the clunk fixed this week because the mechanic is booked out so can't join the trip, you know me, will not go bush unless the car is 100%...
would probably be OK as its only a issue with the rear trailing arm bushes but don't want to cause any possible further issues.
Have a great day and catch you on another one

No worries Matt, totally understandable. Alex is interested, but if no one is all that keen, I'll just cancel the trip as I wont make it public.

Sorry Martin, but the Aust Grand Prix is on the following weekend and I will have to work. I will post another Toolangi trip sometime for you to test out your new muddies.

Great to see we are going to have a good group heading out this Saturday and thanks to all of you for joining this short notice trip. Not sure if Alex will be able to make it, Big Kev' said he cant along with Martin, so might see if anyone else is interested in coming along. Do any of you folks know anyone from the site who you think may enjoy the day out?

Picked the Paj up today after a full transmission rebuild...lots of $$$$ grrrrr. Unfortunately have to go back tomorrow as it seems a couple of switches on transfer case are arse about causing centre diff lock light to flash ,but other than that, all great.

Latest forecast is for some decent rain tomorrow arvo but fine and sunny on Saturday.

Hi Allan,
Do you have a track list in mind ? Cheers.
I'm up for Rocky, must let tyres down from 45PSI this time, but interested on what other tracks you have in mind if I haven't done them, in for sure. The one where I punched my side step into the sill into the door was left off Marginal road, near a fenceline heading east-ish. Don't know the name though....

Hi Alex, am planning to do Rocky 1st up, or at least part of it. Am sure no one will have any big issues with the 1st bit and the hard section is easily bypassed. Other tracks planned are Martins, Campsite, Luke Creeks, Downies, Blowhard etc. There are a couple such as Red West (old Lyndalls) that some may want to do, but I doubt I will let Naomi have a crack at it, so I could take her another way.

So about 6 tracks planned but flexible with others if time permits.

Good to see you joined the trip Alex, am sure you will enjoy. There are a couple of tracks I can reccomend that I think you & Gazza, & possibly Neil, might want to have a crack at with me taking the others to meet you elsewhere. Again, we can discuss during the trip.

Hey Dutchy and Naomi, remember to 'check in'.
