Beginner Trip to the High Country EASY / MEDIUM

Friday:  Travel to a Talbotville (toilet available) set up camp and do an easy loop in the afternoon to Blue Rag. ( weather Permitting)

Saturday: Do a loop around Collingwood Spur and down Bulltown spur track back to camp, then Blue Rag, (weather Permitting)

Sunday: ​Sleep in Pack up head home via Wonnangatta Rd or Billys.

 

I have chosen both ways because Billy's is very steep. But both Garry and I think it wil be ok with the vehicles on the trip.  I am more than happy to lead out the easy way and Garry is more than happy to lead you out  over Billiy's

 

Talbotville can accomodate camper trailers, but you may have to go out the way you came in depending on the trailer and experience.

No tracks are set but they will be for beginners. Friday seems to be the wet day Sat Sun seem to be sunny

I suggest you bring a towel and bathers for a dip in the river during the weekend.

 

All Terrain tyres and a Snorkel are a minimum - must have low range (NO SUV's)  and enough fuel for the weekend I sugest you add a 20lt Jerry can of fuel. You can fuel up at Stratford on the way. Plus basic recovery gear, shackles, straps etc plus a good working UHF or hand held.

Now the doc wants me to do an MRI and because i don't have private insurance i have to pay it myself :(
So now i took next week off to see if rest will work (hopefully).
And no i won't bring the camper mate when i come.

Mate thanks for that yep they will all enjoy, You have looked at my route and it can be changed on the way home. Either left at the bridge or right don't mention what's right at the bridge mate. Gary is with me So we can discuss as a group over the fire Saturday night...... I want everyone to be safe and enjoy.

You spoilt my surprise Gaz. I am not forcing anyone, I am ok leading out left of the bridge. It would be great for the more experienced Beginners to go right at the bridge with you thankyou for the offer mate. but I am going left. I think that track was built by ARB track builders mate.

Hi all, unfortunately I will withdraw from this lovely trip reason is my daughter's graduation ceremony and I only found out about it last Friday.. You have fun guys and good luck to who is taking my place.
I can't believe I'm going to miss out on a trip to Victoria high country, it is my dear.. Enjoy your trip.



I also would like to mention that my friend sami ( the beast) will be withdrawn from the trip as well .

liam, looking at you vehicle specs I feel this will be very boring for you, I think you should get on a trip with more challenges. I can suggest you get on trips that are medium to hard and the leaders will be more than happy to show you the ropes. don't under estimate the PAJ with front and rear Lockers. i am sorry but I must withdraw you from the trip and make way for someone else.

Mate, just because I have a well decked out car it doesn't mean I know how to drive it.. I have little experience, and only owned it for 1 week.

Anyway, I might see you out there as I'll be heading out there that weekend anyway.

Sorry John did you make a comment about Gazza? I am sure you can appreciate and understand that a beginner trip is better looked after with 2 experienced leaders on the one trip. Yes Gazza is there to assist me, this way it will be a far more experience for the beginners.

Yeah sorry I did as i didn't understand. You mentioned it was a beginners trip and seemed to exclude people because of this and then I noticed Gazza was included and got confused. Then I read on and realised that he was there to assist and understood so deleted my post. cheers.

the other point I would like to make is I haven't excluded anyone because of the rig, He was excluded because he could not meet at the meeting time.

Well Gazza, according to weatherzone, Saturday looks like the best day to do Blue Rag. Nice and sunny where as Friday is listed as a little cloudy with a possible shower. Looks as though you may have not much dust as it says 10-20mm of rain on Thursday. Am sure you guys will have a great trip and those who have not met 'Big Kev'; tell him to shutup when he starts talking about ARB...lol

Hi Naomi, no need for chains .if it does snow up at blue rag it will just be slush

Great trip guys. Thanks Kevin and Garry for setting this up and picking the right places to go. A great learning experience and a relaxing weekend. Hopefully everyone got home safely.
I see Gazza has already put up some trip photos, my rig is in a lot of them, so thanks for that. I might pinch one or two of them if that's ok? Also very nice to meet Naomi and her kids, really hoped they enjoyed their camping trip. I have no doubts they did. Will definitely be keeping my eyes peeled for similar trips in the future.
