End of Year / Xmas member gathering trip 2016 (2/3 - 4 Dec)

The plan is to meet up at Cooks Mill Campground at Catheral Range State Park on Friday (2nd Dec) night. The camping ground can accommodate up to 20 cars. There will be enough room for campers/camping trailers. This camp ground is easy to access (2wd/4wd). There are several drop toliets and they are all in good condition :)

Also, if you are unable to camp, most of the nearby town (Buxton, Marysville, Eildon) is only less than 20-30 mins away. You can find your accommodation there. 

 

 

 

I will arrive on Friday afternoon to take up the camp if possible. I will have a 4WDTRIP banner at the entry. If you cannot arrive on Fri, pleae arrive at our camp by 8:30am on Sat for briefing. We will leave camp at 9am sharp on Sat (3 Dec)

 

On Sat, we will split into 3 groups.

HARD group - 5 Cars max 

Medium group - 8 Cars max

Easy/Touring group - 8 Cars max 

Chill out group (You can decide to stay at the camp if you wish)

 

Depends on the response, I will designate a trip leader in each group. I will also provide the route and trip plan. Once the group is full, I will create a separate trip on our site for each group with the a designed trip leader. 

 

I aim at gathering everyone back at camp on Sat by 6pm. 

 

Note: when you join the trip, please make a comment to indicate which group you are joining and if you are interested in leading the group.

Yea I know... seems like everyone just check out the new trip before they have their breakfast :) .... That would be good idea too if you can run a separate group nearby.... due to the large number of participants, we will stick to this trip plan. Hahaha, they may be running the hosting off their park ranger office somewhere ing high country and they cannot handle more than 3 concurrent users making booking.

When I purchased my tickets I left the vehicle rego details out because I wasn't sure what car I would have at the time, cant imagine they'd be doing ID checks on people with current bookings, if someone took them of your hands they could just say they are you.

Their policy is as follows below:

Cancellation Policy

30 days prior 50% cancellation fee.
Less than 30 days prior 100% cancellation fee.
No Transfers.

Hi guys, just realised I set an incorrect start date/time. The official gathering date starts from 3 Dec (Sat) but you are free to arrive on Friday anytime. I suggest you arrive early to take up the camp spots. We will start our Sat drive at 8:30am. So if you plan to arrive on Sat, please arrive at 8am for briefing.
I will likely arrive at 2pm on Friday.

Hi Marc, this is the 1st group that stay at Cathedral Range. The 2nd group will be staying at Rubicon. Since some of the camp grounds are still closed currently due to the weather, there may be changes at camping location. Some camp are relatively smaller so 10 cars is really a max number I can accommodate.

Most of us will arrive on Friday afternoon/night.

Ok for the victims on my hard trip, I am planning a small loop taking in Strickland Spur track and Mt. Gordon lookout track with a few tracks in between I am guessing about 4/5 hours, should get us back to camp no later than 3, plenty of time to socialize and refresh, I look forward to meeting Ben and Brett and to having a fun time on these hard tracks.

Don't worry Jase we will finish all tracks we start and still be back around the camp fire before you ha ha ha , how did you get to lead a trip when your not listed as going.

Hi everyone, just a quick update.

A few of us headed out to the area and drove the tracks for the medium group. The majority of the route are easy except there is one technical track (Parks Rd) next to Rubicon Power Station. The track consists of deep ruts and will require careful wheel placement and team work with your spotter. It will certainly test your vehicle and your skill. We will be coming down the track, not going up. Winston in a FJ will be leading the group. If you are not comfortable, please let me or Winston know so we will move you to another group.

Since there are some people movement, I have re-allocated everyone to your designated group. PLEASE check your username and the group you are in. If you would like to move to a different group, please send me a private message.

The camp was packed with holiday makers yesterday. I strongly suggest everyone to arrive early and take up your spot. If we are all scattered around the camp, please find me so I can brief you.

On Sat, we will have briefing at 8:30am and leave at 9am sharp.

On Sunday, we plan to have a drone aerial photo shoot with the whole group at the Eildon Dam.

Hi all just following on from what Kelvin has posted, the tracks we looked at yesterday honestly were very easy aside from Parks Rd. However also there is a very tight and overgrown track that leads into it that realistically will result in pin stripes. It has a great rock ledge step up that most newer 4wds and older modified 4wds will cruise up easily but the overgrowth is pretty harsh. There is an easy go-around if you don't want to do this section, and if the group as a whole doesn't want to do it we will take the main road. As for Parks Rd, it is basically a rutted track where for the most part with spotter assistance you bridge the ruts and cross over them at points. There will be some great photo opportunities for flex along this section. I will be getting a heap of exercise to spot everyone through these bits and talk you all through it. It is fairly steep, so slow going and following directions is the key. Please don't hesitate to message me if you are concerned at all.

Hi guys can I just add a reminder for everyone if they can to bring some firewood along with them? The rules on collecting roadside firewood are pretty stiff and as it's a paid camp site I wouldn't be surprised if we get a visit from Parks management.
