This trip is for anyone who is new to off roading and not that keen on camping , we won't be seeking hard but if we come across something that looks difficult you can be assured I will get you all through.

We will meet up at the Briag. pub for a yummy dinner at about 6.30pm on Friday,  then move on to the cabins about 15 mins away , I have booked 2 cabins that sleep plenty , we will have room for everyone .

Check out Wombat valley cabins on line then look for cabin Kookaburra and cabin Wombat.

All cabins have flushing toilets, hot water showers and gas lighting, they are pet friendly and we can have a good size fire to sit around.

On Saturday we will have a drive to the iconic Dargo pub on tracks I believe to be easy/medium, could be lunch here , then an easy drive back to the cabins  for dinner around the camp fire where we will discuss the Sunday drive.

The trip will wind up around 2 to 3pm  on Sunday so we can all be home before dark

Gday Alan, thanks for organising this. I'd like to bring my camper trailer and sleep in that. But I will gladly kick in for the night and be a part of it all. Hope that's ok? It will free up a bunkhouse bed for someone else? I just bought the trailer and want to try it out as I'm setting a few things up. Let me know if it complicates things and I'll withdraw - no hard feelings. Thanks Rob

Robbie , I understand the need for you to practice setting up the camper and if you were wishing to bring your family I would say it would be fine also I would love to check out your Amarok how ever you will be on your own and it's my guess the owners of this property would not like to set a precedent, we would love to have you along but not with the camper this time, sorry.

Just to make sure we are all clear these cabins are about $200 per night ,min.2 nights for 4 people, that is about $50 per night per person, will be less if more than 4 per cabin, we have stayed here several times and love it.

No problem Robbie, I would much rather be rolling out my swag also but once or twice a year I run one of these trips so my wife can come along and enjoy herself, the cabins are far from plush with no electricity and a big open fire place though they do have a hot shower and a flushing toilet.

Eli the plan is to be at the Dargo pub for lunch so working backwards we have about 3.5 to 4 hours of track time plus stoppages for photos which I encourage , toilet stops plus any obstacles we come across, so I would like to gather the troops about 8ish for a brief and head off say 8.30.
The cabins have a 2 night minimum charge on weekends, you might be able to negotiate this with the owners when you pay but I am not sure.
As a co.owner of 4wdtrip I always look forward to meeting our members so I hope to meet you both .

Thats no good Glenn , the reason for the cabins is to make the girls a bit more comfortable, but glad you can still make it , there will be 5 other women along for this trip, so the dishes will get washed, shit did I say that out loud.

Hi All, just noticed this trip post - I was in the area a couple of months ago and the rivers were right up, even Crooked River was impassible. Might be worth checking how the rivers are before heading in :)

    Enjoy your trip!

I live in the area and mostly all the rivers etc are ok. So it should be right if we get no more rain.

All good with the rivers and creeks , I have just spoken to Donella from Wombat valley cabins , she says nothing over hub height.
Tom maybe 2 months ago there would have been snow melt might have pushed them up a bit..
While I have your attention , if you all top your tanks up at Sale or even Stratford it will be plenty , you can also put a splash in at Dargo, as far as I can remember there is no fuel at Briagolong.

Sorry guys I put my little report for the weekend under the trip report which I just realised is meant for the trip leader. Sorry. But below is my summary of the great weekend had.

This trip that Allan organised was great, it had everything. Myself and my partner met up with the group early Saturday morning (as we went to watch the Swans smash the Cats the night before) and my first impression of everyone was they were all friendly and welcoming. Allan gave us a run down on where we were going, what we were doing and safety before we headed off and made everyone feel comfortable as some of us are new to this.

We headed out through the bush from the cabins and the scenery was beautiful, this trip had everything, a little mud so slip and slide around in, inclines, declines, beautiful views and heaps and heaps of river crossings. This trip was rated easy/medium and i would agree, there were certainly some challenges along the way but there was also times where you could comfortable drive and just take in the views and scenery. We made it to Dargo late afternoon so missed a pub lunch by a couple of hours. However we had a drink and grab some group photos at the iconic pub before heading back to the cabins.

The cabins were great had everything you would need for a weekend away, running water, toilets, showers, open fire, kitchen and comfy beds after a big day out driving. We sat around the fire for a few hours eating and drinking and got to hear some interesting yarns and learn a little more about each person and their life experiences which was nice. Hitting that pillow that night was the best as it was a massive day of driving. The group excluding myself did another trip on the Sunday, I unfortunately couldn’t as on the Saturday I stuffed my drive shaft so I decided to head back to Melbourne.

I highly rate this trip, Allan is very experienced, friendly and had great knowledge of the area which made the trip go smoothly. Also all the members who went were also very nice and fun which made it such a good weekend. I am looking forward to catching up with everyone again and going on the next adventure.

Thanks to Allan and Deb for a great weekend.
