This is no joke Son! Mt Disa is rut and rock country. An awesome day out.

Experienced drivers only with well setup 4wds. I want this to be a fun day with a good pace, not a winching, smashing day.

Did Crosiers track the other day, the top section seemed very rutted out and slippery over the main balder, new tyres would be an advantage
    18 Aug 2016
    Alex (AlexPatrol)
Down the back section about 6 weeks ago a tornado had gone thru and pushed down a large amount of tree's, Pinnacle tk way, not sure if a path has been cleared yet but it was totally blocked.

Jase if you don't want winching , better give Alcorns a wide berth, on the other hand its an awesome 400 meters and the best 4wds will have to winch at least 3 times, I did this track twice in the one day , 4 winches in the afternoon and 3 winches at night mind you I run 33s and no lockers.

Or you can buy a Triton like mine and laugh at all the pootrols, jeeps and landcruisers from the top with a bag of popcorn while they're winching all day lmaoooo

Guys just a bit of an update. I went out to cobaws yesterday and did a bit of a reccy trip and checked out Alcorn Track.
It is by far the worst I've seen it as of late and i have been heading to cobaws since 92.

My video was shot in summer hence the track was very driveable and dry.
Yesterday the entire length of track was rutted out completely and its clay/sand like surface was very slippery.

I managed to take my car half way up for a looksie but decided to stop before the first step up and turn around.

In my honest opinion and given the current track condition i wouldnt hesitate to take the chicken track on the side on the day of this trip if i see it hasnt dried out a little by then.
I'm all for hardcore sessions of wheeling but I'm not up for breaking trucks nor spending hours tryna get through it on the end of a winch and skull dragging my vehicle over the boulders.

I cant help to think that if a group of us were heading out there on the day to do it in its current condition that someones going to be definitely breaking something but personally i can assure you if its anything like yesterday its not going to be me.
If theres going to be takers who are willing to winch and skull drag their vehicles across i will happily run there winch and watch.

    It looked hideous yesterday.
    Definitely winch truck terrain.

😊 There is always a lot of talk about Alcorn. If it's wet all of Cobaw will be a pain in the butt and I may cancel the trip depending on what you guys think. If it's dry, full steam ahead. But we can cross that bridge when we get to it. That's about it from me.

Everyone can make their own decision on what they want to drive or not, they can choose the chicken track if they would like. I won't be driving all the way to Cobaw to not drive Alcorn, it is the reason I go there.

    Very true!

I do recall seeing one of your vids a while back on fb doing it in your rig but i also belive it was quite dry?
Have you ever attempted to drive this track in the wet Eddie?

Does this mean you will be joining us on this trip?
Would love to see it in action in the flesh mate

I hope to make it. I'm not living in Melbourne anymore, so makes things a little more difficult.

Yeah, I've been up it when it was a mudslide (and without my Simex), that was interesting! Pic link below....

Alcorn can be very unforgiving... you need a working winch, patience and a lot of thinking.... the whole cobaw is not for those who just want speed ..... long story short, check out the video of the trip Eddie ran few months back .....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pa2K_HBjveo</i></div>I have down a night trip at Cobaw, different to day runs, but some of our most respected members had major issues machanicaly, he was talking to Jesus. (not in the nice manner) and that was in summer. So keep it in mind 2" lift- and 33"tyres in good nick minimum, is a must. have a good and safe trip.

Brett, anybody driving anything other than a pootrol these days is totally beneath me… I don't have the time to wheel with all these other lower demographic rigs as I now consider myself part of the upper class 4wd world lol

Nah in all seriousness, The day i popped out to cobaws it was only because I had a spare 4 hours in my day, Which consisted of driving out there for the hour, spending 1 hour there checking out Alcorn track (only climbed half way up ) and another hour drive back home then another hour driving out to my jobs in the afternoon in which i finished work at 10.30pm that night.
Wasn't a run out i even bothered to go with anybody as all i did was check the track conditions.

These days I don't think i will be heading out much with the sproglet on the way.
I got the tooling and cobaws trip booked in and to be honest If there is the slightest reason that I have to pull out because of it I will have to ,

We may have taken a good 2 to 3 years to head out since our last trip but It won't be that long again this time! Even for a shoot!

WITHDRAWN from Trip - Reason: Guys i am unfortunately going to have to hang up the boots for this trip too.
The last 2 weeks work has been pulling me away from doing anything and quotes that i never assumed i would get (thought i quoted high) have now come through.
Unfortunately as a reactive maintenance plumber for several real estates and body corps keeps me working round the clock till the early hours of the morning seven days a week.

Wishing everyone best of luck with this trip and am spewing i cant make it as it was going to be my last trip out before my child was born.
Unfortunately now the next closest trip for me may be many moons away after my baby is born. :(

Hi All, it's going to rain most of the week so I'm going to cancel/change the trip. I'm going to move the trip to Mount Disappointment because it's really good there in the wet. Can everyone let me know if they're interested in doing Mt Disa and I'll invite you into the new trip. If not, I'll make the trip public. I'll need to know asap as I'm creating the Mt Disa trip tomorrow.
