4WD Victoria Clean up the Bush (Wombat State Forrest) EASY

Bullarto / Womat State Forrest, VIC

See more trips

Are you wanting to DO something about all that rubbish you see in the bush? Like the sound of a weekend away with great people, a free feed and a beautiful drive? Then Clean up the Bush is for you! And we need your help.

Wombat State Forest has been hard-hit by illegal rubbish dumping, and is in great need of our help. We are calling for volunteers for a clean-up weekend on 4th-5th June. If you would like to attend the whole weekend, that’s fantastic! If you can only attend one day, that’s still a great help too. (Feel free to arrive on the Friday for a free feed and relaxed start Sat morning).

BYO trailer/pair of hands if you can. We have camping facilities and toilets at Bullarto. Dinners, Breakfasts and great company provided!

If you are interested in helping out, please email kwaller@fwdvictoria.org.aufor more information.

As with all FWDV events, we need vehicles to be roadworthy, and volunteers to adopt the mantra of 'driving in a sustainable environment'. Thanks!

Marcel, I don't have a trailer but want to help, we don't need the DEPI to close us out.

Does it make any difference? Either way someone needs to pick up the dump peoples rubbish whether it be in remote desert, local parks, beaches or our favourite 4wding destinations

na sorry that is bullshit as far as I am concerned, mate don't know about you but plenty of Australians do there bit for clean up Australia, volunteer for for works such as Friends of the bush, Wanangatta preservation group, sea sheppard and the list goes on. I pick up rubbish every time I walk around our local park and there are heaps of volunteers that do work around the Dandenong Ranges with tree planting and weed removal.
Going by your way of thinking families without a 4by shouldn't have access ???WTF
Thats the trouble with todays world everyone wants to take take take and not give back

interesting chat amongst a couple of concerned 4wd people Marcel, are we picking up dumped tip rubbish? or is it rubbish from the unthinking 4wd community? I agree it does need to be cleaned up but if it just the 2wd tip rubbish the council also needs to be proactive ie: my council puts cameras in trees and takes registration numbers of dumpers. They then prosecute them. The other comment I would like to make is that if we are locked out, these dills will only move into other areas

Hey Mark
From the previous Clean up the Bush programs we have found rubbish in areas you didn't think a 4wd would get in there, however most rubbish seems to be dumped within areas close to the main tracks or near the start of 4wd tracks.
We have found commercial waste, household stuff and renovators building rubbish, concrete asbestos etc etc

We leave all asbestos behind for commercial cleaners to remove

I don't know that area at all, but most forests have a limited number of access points, is it feasible to run cameras in the access roads? Obviously commercial vehicles or vehicles towing trailers full of crap would stick out, it couldn't be too hard to nail them down.
The lazy 4wder is another st ... </i></div>DELWP have been very much involved with the efforts, this is more than just a cleanup, there are political issues at hand as well.
If the average politician had his/her way, the easy way out would be to close tracks so rubbish can't be dumped. This of cause would affect us all. Therefore 4WD Vic has coordinated this clean up to proof to the powers to be that associated clubs and club members are responsible 4WDrs. We receive a lot of positive press and have the support from both sides of the political spectrum.

On another note, from previous clean ups we have found evidence of who the dumpers were, like letters with address etc found amongst the rubbish, I understand that these people have been prosecuted.

There is certainly a lot local council can do to kerb illegal dumping, In Wyndham all home owners receive 2 tip vouchers with their rates notice, problem there is that tenants don't receive them. However hard rubbish is still available to have collected from your home. Of cause rubbish such as car wrecks and industrial/commercial waste come at a very high cost when you go to the local tip. Some tips charge as much as $129 for a small trailer

To divert from the original question, is it 2WD accessible?
I might be able to borrow a friends caged 6x4 trailer, but don't wish to wreck it on him.

Yes there is no heavy tracks to drag your trailer up/down most of the tracks covered would be drive able in a 2wd
