Important Note!!:
Only join and participate in this trip at your own risk.
Every one will be responsible for their own safety.
Remember, as in any trip, if you or one of the trip members see that the track in front of them is too difficult, don't attempt it

This trip is for experienced 4wd drivers with well setup and equipped 4wd cars!

Approximate distance:
50kms approximately (including tracks) from the meeting point.
Full Tank from Melbourne will be sufficient for this Trip

Trip Description:
This trip is categorised as hard so it is required to have aggressive M/T or A/T Tyres and a working electric winch .
BYO Recovery gear is MANDATORY
We will aim to finish by 4pm
We will be stopping for lunch so BYO food and water.
All Trip Participants, including passengers, must wear fully enclosed footwear (e.g. sneakers, work type boots) whilst on this Trip.

Recovery Equipment:
The minimum requirement is one Snatch Strap, 2 Bow Shackles rated, a Dampener and Riggers Gloves (a full recovery kit is preferable and more appropriate, but not ssential). Riggers Gloves must be worn when dealing with recovery equipment or for track clearing if encountered. Equipment must be in very good condition.. If you don't have this recovery equipment do not join!!

VEHICLE & EQUIPMENT:
Your vehicle must be Roadworthy and appropriately set up for the trip (if you know of any mechanical or maintenance issues with your vehicle, you must have these fully resolved/rectified before the Trip). You will need ground clearance for the Hard Tracks, therefore a suspension lift of at least 2 inches is strongly advised to minimize vehicle damage. Appropriate or Acceptable front and rear recovery points, for snatch strapping or winching, are essential. Due to the terrain of Toolangi Forest a minimum of 33' Mud Tyres with very good tread depth are recommended. Tyres on or very close to roadworthy are not acceptable. Onboard UHF Radio, basic vehicle spares and tools, First Aid Kit and Fire Extinguisher

FOOD AND GENERAL PROVISIONS:
You need to be fully self-sufficient and bring enough Food, Water and Snacks for all persons in your vehicle for lunch. I usually stop and grill some steaks so you could and will have enough time to fire up your portable cooker. You also need to bring sufficient Water for every person in your vehicle. Weather can be very unpredictable in the mountains so please bring a warm clothes.

Postponing due to late posting of the trip and noone signing up but also due to really crappy windy weather predicted overnight, don't want to run around with chainsaw

What tracks are you planning to do?
There are a lot of winter closures at Toolangi

Hi Jack are you planning on doing Rocky track? I have walked it not sure the Gladiator would get up it without damage.

I was planning, but you can meet us at the top, Myself I will be attempting only the left side of the track which is a bit easier but still hard.

Hi all i have just joined in on this trip. I have made several solo trips out to Toolangi and made it back but held off on the hard stuff. I have tried to reach out to Jack but not sure the emails get through. If anyone has any problem with someone a little more inexperienced joining in or this is the kind of trip where you are all expecting to destroy your rigs would you say so now. Cheers Stephen

Given seasonal closures most of the hard tracks that I'm aware of will be closed. I know of three hard tracks that will be open - Rocky Track, Walking Track (aka Red's East), and Lyndells (aka Red's West). All fun tracks that are hard but not usually rig-damage tracks. There are chicken tracks on Rocky but not on the other two. In dry weather and a well set-up rig it's possible to drive them all without winching - but I expect all will need winching in the wet. I'd be keen on trying all three but I'm not sure what tracks Jack is planning!

Hi All,

we do have few closures:

Yarra Ranges National Park (North West) SPUD TRACK 23A 16/06/2022 27/10/2022
Yarra Ranges National Park (North West) SPUR TRACK

I am just going to use newtracs app and look for black and orange tracks, or maybe blue, if very wet, which looks like they should be open according to the list above.

So as Baz mentioned, we could attempt any of the following
1. Rocky,
2. Walking,
3 Lyndells,
and also
4 Aeroplane track
5 cockpit creek track
6. Downies Spur Track
7. Luke Creek No2
8. Campsite Track
9. Not much help track
10. Woodmore track

And sorry Stephen, missed your email notification, went to spam folder, as with any hard tracks vehicle damage can occur, so have to prepared and evaluate when you are on the tracks. Most likely we will adjust difficulty based on the conditions, or can meet you at the end, if no chicken tracks

Happy to hear any suggestions which tracks from the list better to avoid.

Thanks Jack. Great trip. I really pushed the little grand Cherokee to it's limit. Which is why I joined your trip.
Hope the rest of the tracks were fun
Fred fyi. Trafalgar truck weigh bridge confirmed the jeep is 2520. With me in it only. Heavier than it looks.

Yes thanks Jack & crew for making it a great trip!

Daniel, yep your Jeep's a little heavier than I expected, still lighter than the Patrols i reckon. My 76 came in at 2920. :-)

Thanks everyone for participating in my trip. I was really impressed with walking track, my type of technical drive, and was really happy to make it one go.. btw Fred :) I wish I had a recording of you driving it. Your car and your full on concentration face haha

If anyone has any pics and would like to share join my group on FB https://www.facebook.com/groups/587852129124889/?ref=share

Btw my car is around 3.5T so it makes even more challenging to climb tracks such as walking track. Certainly wet conditions would mean everyone would winch

We ended up going aeroplane track but 200metres down we saw a car bogged down so we reversed up and on above 5000rpms in first gear, the mud was flying everywhere but I managed to climb that muddy section. But my engine overheated, must have been the luke no 2 bog hole that caused it. So we went down in Baz patrol and spent 2 or 3 hours recovering poor guy that came on his date with gf and got stack in his Holden Colorado. Most of recovery was Baz snatching him out going up Aeroplane. Got home 8pm
