Mt Disa - Post Lockdown warmup and camping MEDIUM / HARD

Mt Disa, VIC

See more trips
Vaccinated and unvaccinated are welcome to join. F**k that Dan Andrews fascist

This trip is for experienced 4wd drivers with well setup and equipped 4wd cars!

We will aim to setup camp (optional) around 4pm or 5pm so if you are planning to stay bring all your camping equipment

Important Note:
Only join and participate in this trip at your own risk.
Every one will be responsible for their own safety.
Remember, as in any trip, if you or one of the trip members see that the track in front of them is too difficult, we will all choose different path.

Approximate distance:
50kms approximately (including tracks) from the meeting point.
Full Tank from Melbourne will be sufficient for this Trip

Trip Description:
This trip is categorised as medium to hard(due to the unknown tracks that we might come accross) so it is required to have Mud Tyres and a working electric winch .
BYO Recovery gear is MANDATORY
We will aim to finish by 4pm
We will be stopping for lunch so BYO food and water.
All Trip Participants, including passengers, must wear fully enclosed footwear (e.g. sneakers, work type boots) whilst on this Trip.

Recovery Equipment:
The minimum requirement is one Snatch Strap, 2 Bow Shackles rated, a Dampener and Riggers Gloves (a full recovery kit is preferable and more appropriate, but not essential). Riggers Gloves must be worn when dealing with recovery equipment or for track clearing if encountered. Equipment must be in very good condition.. If you don't have this recovery equipment do not join!!

VEHICLE & EQUIPMENT:
Your vehicle must be Roadworthy and appropriately set up for the trip (if you know of any mechanical or maintenance issues with your vehicle, you must have these fully resolved/rectified before the Trip). You will need ground clearance for the Hard Tracks, therefore a suspension lift of at least 2 inches is strongly advised to minimize vehicle damage. Appropriate or Acceptable front and rear recovery points, for snatch strapping or winching, are essential. Due to the terrain of Mt Disapointment Forest a minimum of 33' Mud Tyres with very good tread depth is required. Tyres on or very close to roadworthy are not acceptable. Onboard UHF Radio, basic vehicle spares and tools, First Aid Kit and Fire Extinguisher. If you don't have 33' inch tyres and minimum 2 inch lift do not join!!

FOOD AND GENERAL PROVISIONS:
You need to be fully self-sufficient and bring enough Food, Water and Snacks for all persons in your vehicle for Morning Tea, Lunch and Afternoon Tea. You also need to bring sufficient Water for every person in your vehicle. Weather can be very unpredictable in the mountains so please bring a warm article of clothing, like a jacket or coat, to protect you from the cold.

see the map above,

I have tried sailor jack and wild dog tracks in the north part once, but they were graded and dry then, too easy. I guess in wet and if not graded could be fun, also depending how much time we have,

we will setup camp in andersons garden or regular camp, depending how busy, or we can discuss to try to find more remote area with less people

Can’t say I’ve done those tracks. I won’t be staying the night but I’ll be out with you all day until you setup camp

Am I right in saying all the tracks should be open now? I think I saw a sign about seasonal closed gates being opened this weekend.

Mt Disa was never affected by seasonal closures, I don't think it changed

They do close a few tracks. There is a track that leads into dissa from whittlesea called Bruce’s creek and it was meant to be closed but someone cut the locks last week when I was there

Is anyone still interested in doing an overnighter?
02 Nov 2021
Matthew (discomatt)
No wonder he has been removed, did another trip with him on Sunday just gone against my better judgment and after that decided never again.
PM me if your interested in any details but attitude toward the environment and fellow 4wds isn't what I call acceptable

DiscoMatt,
You said you don't like me and would never do a trip with me too, remember? You must not like lots of people. I suppose that comes with being wise and knowing better than everyone else.

WITHDRAWN from Trip - Reason: I couldn't get away with the family, so I'll likely do it this weekend. Have fun folks. Mt Disa is great.

Only 2 people out of the dozens I have been out with from the site that I have had reservations about, I guess you are just a lucky one Jas ;-)

Reading the trip description it may well be the first line that got Jack removed

As a day trip I’ll pass, it’s a 5 1/2 round trip so it’s only worth it as a 2 day trip. Thanks anyway.

For anyone that has been misinformed about my stance on the environment and the bush, please see this post when I organised my kids to do a day in mt disa and we filled up a car with bags full of rubbish left by others https://www.facebook.com/groups/860746070664174/posts/2820017908070304

I don’t judge people by what others have to say about them. I’m a big boy and can make my own decisions. Was looking forward to heading out
