Post phoned to Summer 2022 Dec Jan - Easter Long Weekend in Beachport/Robe SA EASY / MEDIUM

See more trips
I have been to Beachport/Robe SA many times and have been wanting to return. I really love what this area has to offer and good memories that bring me back :) This has become an Annual trip that I run .
There is no requirement to stay for full timeframe above. The majority of the tracks would be completed by the Sunday Afternoon.
For those that want to stay longer to just to relax and wind down or the possible explore - the plan is to get some fishing in .
I will be departing Melbourne on the Friday Morning for a Mid afternoon arrival.

To improve visibility and safety whilst sand driving - this trip has a requirement of “ Sand Flags”.

I do recommend the purchase of a quality Fit for purpose Sand flag if possible . I know in the past Sand flags can be home-made too but attaching them securely to the vehicle can be tricky. This is for everyone’s safety and to ensure car insurance compliance - if something was to happen.

PLEASE FIND OWN ACCOMMODATION.
DUE TO THE CURRENT TREND FOR LOCAL TOURISM - ACCOMODATION WILL BE HARD TO FIND . Please ring around and check the SA Parks website for camp site locations

You will have to alternatively choose to select where you want to stay for example self contained cabins but you can be slotted very far from the main group . The sites share shower/toilet blocks.

Do bring recovery gear , shovels and maxtrax for those that have them , also heavy 400 wide x 1 metre rubber conveyor belt sheets seem to work very well in sand - from what we have seen (Wayne’s idea) .

I do recommend your vehicle is mechanically sound so please do check over your vehicle in the weeks leading up to the trip.

Each vehicle should carry a reliable air compressor for Tyre inflation to inflate tyres once off the tracks. All vehicles must have a Sand flag - preferably one that is purchased and sold as a sand flag is with quality mounting . Bushranger, ARB , ATEM , Opposite Lock , TJM , RoadSafe and Kings have sand flags available.

Bring sufficient food , water and drink for your duration however long you may decide to stay. There are local shops nearby such as the Bakery, Cafe and Grocery store. Please do support the local businesses.

We generally have a dinner night at the Beachport pub/Hotel . It’s become a tradition but not sure how and if the Covid restrictions could impact us as a group sitting together . I will need accurate numbers to book our table .

If you want to fish - bring some fishing rods and tackle. No Fishing licence is required.
however please do check size and bag limits.

Some caravan/camping sites allow fire pit/dogs but if it’s summer - there may be summer fire restrictions. We would all have to chip in an buy some firewood to keep the fire pit going .

I booked the caravan park and applied from my VIC to SA and SA to VIC permit.

SA to VIC was instant, but apparently the SA permit has to be reviewed and approved

      Hi All,
At this point in time , there are restrictions in entering SA,
“ Any arrival from Greater Melbourne Area since 12.01 am 28 January 2021 to self-quarantine at a suitable place and submit to COVID-19 testing on Day 1, 5 and 12. Upon written confirmation of a negative COVID-19 result, person is released from the self-quarantine requirement, but must complete the testing regime.

Metropolitan Melbourne is divided into 31 local government areas (LGAs). Those LGAs are: Banyule, Hume, Moreland, Bayside, Kingston, Mornington Peninsula, Boroondara, Knox, Nillumbik, Brimbank, Manningham, Port Phillip, Cardinia, Maribyrnong, Stonnington, Casey, Maroondah, Whitehorse, Darebin, Melbourne, Whittlesea, Frankston, Melton, Wyndham, Glen Eira, Monash, Yarra, Greater Dandenong, Moonee Valley, Yarra Ranges and Hobsons Bay.”

If This condition idoes not change as we near the start date of our trip - will certainly mean the postponement of this trip.

However - there is contingency for an alternative destination as I will be off for the week and intend to go elsewhere within Victoria . Thurstain and I do intend to seek another destination if South Australia has those restrictions .

      Hi All,
I am going to cancel this trip for another time - I don’t think it’s possible with the current situation and fairly certain the conditions will not make it possible to go on these dates .

      Hi All, ,
This trip will be postponed until we come clear out of the COVID issues . I myself have made a decision to hold off on any interstate travel till about a week before summer . Sorry guys .

Hi All, I hope everyone has been well.
I am envisaging that a trip will be held when SA opens its borders again without the quarantine period. I do believe there will be requirements that we will have to meet - to obtain a border permit . Stay tuned for a date to be set and looking at dates it would be in December or January with the latter being highly likely.

Entry to South Australia somewhat easier now.

      the following from SA website.

As of 26 December 2021, vaccinated people arriving from NSW/ACT/VIC are no longer required to have a COVID test on arrival and on day 6. They must have a COVID Test (including a Rapid Antigen Test) prior to arrival in SA.

      Hi All,
Are many of you free in the next week or so?
I believe that with the relaxation of the testing regime whilst in SA may work in our favour and also there is a risk of a lot of restrictions coming into play after the 2nd week of January 2022.
This means we may need to run the trip with a start date from just after NY day or so . If ppl are interested I will run this trip .

I'm free for a trip during either of the two weeks from

      Sun 9th - Fri 14th
      Sun 16th - Fri 21st

I'll have my son and nephew with me and would like to spend time so they can play on the sand dunes with toboggans and spend some time fishing.

There is a high possibility that I will not be able to run this trip and will pass the Trip Leadership to someone else who can.
I recently left my old job and started a new one and as such don’t have the same flexibility in setting leave dates .

In this situation the new trip leader can determine time/dates but as you can all understand we live in uncertain times. We will also need everyone’s input too. Many thanks for your understanding.

      Hi All,
From what has happened with bookings - we won’t be able to find a unified caravan campground together .

Apparently many of the parks - ppl have booked in excess of 6 months plus.

The only options available to us is for each vehicle to book accommodation/ caravan/camping spot in the numerous parks around Beachport and robe .

We can meet on the main road for each trip start for the meet and greet .
