Another Tour of Toolangi. EASY / MEDIUM

Toolangi State Forest., VIC

See more trips

This trip will be a relaxed trip that will probably suit those new to 4wding, those who do not want to damage their vehicle, those who do not want to push the limits of their or vehicle capabilities, or those who have not had the opportunity to visit the Toolangi area. This trip might also appeal to the experienced 4wder who just wants to have a nice leisurely drive around the state forest. As we will not be driving  the 'iconic' tracks, such as Rocky, Lyndalls, Aeroplane, Blowhard, Cockpit etc, please dont join this trip if that is your expectation.

Minimum Vehicle Requirements.:  A/T tyres, (no H/T), UHF radio, (in car or hand held), Basic recovery gear, (snatchstrap/shackles), recovery points, low range 4wd.

Most of the tracks we will be driving are rated easy, but their will be 1 or 2 of medium rating, especially if it is wet. We will cover aprox 100-150 klms from Yarra Glen and return, so ensure you have enough fuel for the day; (all fuels available at Yarra Glen). Lunch break will not be long,(30-45mins) so dont bring the BBQ etc to cook a feast. Nice food available at either of the bakeries in Yarra Glen. Plan is to making our way home by 4pm in the afternoon.

Please be on time as we will have a quick briefing/vehicle check at 9.00am and will leave by 9.15 am sharp. As with all my trips, if you fail to 'check in' (by 12.00pm(noon) on the 17th), you will be removed from the trip; (common courtesy to confirm you are coming).

Any questions, feel free to ask.

That did fill quickly and it is pleasing to see there are many members who are happy to head out on a 4wd trip that does not involve pushing the limits of both themselves or their vehicle. Looking forward to meeting all of those who I have not met previously, (most of the attendees), and I will say it is great to see Suzanne join us, as I thought we might have put her off 4wding after she came along as a passenger on one of our harder Toolangi trips.

Again, if anyone has any questions/queries at all, no matter how minor they may seem, feel free to ask.

Imran, a few of the tracks will have a few ruts, but nothing huge.

Thanks for that Suzanne; very interesting as a number of the state forest areas closed are not affected by fire. I know they close them on extreme fire danger days, but not sure why so many are closed now. So I rang DELWP to clarify and was told for safety reasons and not sure when they will re open.

I will wait until next Monday before making a call on this trip after I call DELWP again, and if situation remains as is, will postpone trip until a later date.

Good to see Alex & Pauly grab the 2 spots due to a few withdrawing from trip. Unfortunately it is looking more likely that we will have to postpone the trip as latest update is that most of the State Forests will remain closed for the foreseeable future. Contacted DWELP today and a further update could be forthcoming by Wednesday or Thursday. At this stage, I will wait until then before making the call but, as I said earlier, postponement is most likely.

If so, I am looking at 2 possible alternate dates, either Sat Jan 25th or Sat Feb 8th. Those attending, let me know what you prefer. As I said, will keep you all updated when I find out more.

I’ll go with the flow Allan as either date works at this time 👍
We got moved on politely twice last week emergency services have enough on their plates right now I’d imagine

Good news, many state forests have now reopened, so trip will go ahead this Saturday as planned; unless anything unforeseen happens over the next few days.

Some rain is expected on Wednesday/Thursday so hopefully this will reduce the amount of dust on the tracks.

Ahhh no matter how quick I am every time someone pulls out it still shows as trip full when I jump straight onto it. Wondering if those who have ‘expressed interest’ go into an automatic wait list or something? Or am I missing something obvious here by chance?

Shane, doesnt work that way as those who 'expressed interest' do not automatically take a vacant spot; it is just how quick you are to get in if a vacancy opens up.

Good to see another member of the 'old crew', (Digger & Erin) grab a spot and I hope they dont get too bored driving the easy tracks. Am happy if they, Alex & Pauly want to branch off and do the harder tracks and meet up elsewhere. Alex, I will add a track that will give Pauly a chance to play in the mud, if that is what 'floats his boat'...lol.

Not sure what you mean Marco, but noticed you did 'check in' so thanks to you & the others who have done so. Unfortunately 2 have failed to 'check in' so I will recheck at 2pm and if they havent done so by then will be removed from trip meaning 2 spots will be available.

2 spots now available due to a few failing to 'check in'. Some will say a little harsh, but is made perfectly clear in trip description.
