Matlock loop from Warburton MEDIUM

Mt Matlock, vic, VIC

See more trips

Snow Run , Forecast is for snow on sunday so heading out to see what we can find. This is planned as a relaxing medium paced trip flexibility is a must as track conditions are unknown.

This loop is from Warburton, Plan will be to air down at Stockmans reward camp ground (Approx 1 hr) from Warburton.

From Airing down we will be looking at the following tracks

Snowy Trk

Eli Trk

Frenchmans Trk

Boundary Trk

Corn HIll Trk

up to Mt Matlock Fire Look out

out via Warburton - Woodspoint Rd to Cumberland Junction (air up)

This will be a full day hope to be back  at Cumberland Junction at around 4:30pm, this will allow for Lunch, snow play and any recoveries / traffic jams. Hopefully being a sunday traffic will be minimal.

Please ensure you are prepared for the conditions, have full recovery gear, have a vehicle equipt with low range no soft roaders. Minimum aggressive All Terrains. All Food and Water for a full day out Families and kids welcome.

NOTE this is my first trip as a Leader. I have done this loop a few times and am experienced in 4wding and recoveries. All drivers are responsible for their vehicles and enter this trip at their own risk knowing damage can occur and it is not the trip leaders fault.

If you have any questions please contact me.

Good loop done it soooo many times.
For a challenge go up the old section of I think its Boundary where the 'new' track of about 20 years ago bypasses it and zig-zags. The old straight up one is more interesting...

Recommend winches for all cars very hard and dangerous to snatch in the snow

True Alex i believe I've done this with you previously. Was very rocky from memory but fun.

I agree Pauly but a twin locked vehicle with MT with no winch would be very capable in these conditions. While I have listed winch in the recommendations, experience and each vehicle setup will be evaluated. I'll have maxtrax as well which would also negate the need to snatch in most cases.

Evening everyone, thanks for the interest and joining of this trip. If anyone has a chainsaw can you bring it on the day just in case. There is one river crossing - last time it was mid door height on my patrol, but has a concrete base.

Just a reminder to ensure your checked in 24 hrs prior to start time as there is a number of members who are interested in this trip. Thanks again!!

Nick. I have my saw in the truck. It is battery powered but I have the charger connected to the invertor for those days where you get 5 tracks blocked by trees!. A petrol saw is often better if someone has the space for it.

Fantastic to see you leading a trip Nick. It will be an exciting and rewarding experience. The snow condition last weekend was amazing. Watch out there will be heaps of 4by in the area.
