Whilst I have a petrol V8 cruiser my daily drive is a force fed HSV and tuning is everything..... High performance mods require hipo tuning..... Probably stating the obvious but have you got a good aftermarket ECU on the 100.....Steve Cochrane ......

Yeah good point an ECU/Chip mod might help out.

G'day guys

i looked at chips when at the last 4x4 show but was told I couldn't put one on my car as it was not a factory turbo but an after market turbo. Do they do chips for after market turbos?

I discussed this with a mate of mine tonight ..... He thought it may not be possible ..... But for what it's worth a few well placed calls may give you a definitive answer.... My belief is higher performance does not have to mean higher consumption.... My GTS is tuned to 460 kw .... 30 kw above factory but more fuel efficient than factory..... Maybe talk to Ian at Amberly autos in Dandenong.... They have looked after my S14 Nissan for years and get plenty out of her.....they are very good with forced induction and also diesels.....

Was reading a post on Earth about water in engins, apparently diesels can get algie in the tank and lines from water in the fuel, maybe try some research on a good additive to clean the whole fuel system out

my gas gussling 4.6 doesn't use much more than yours on a good run, working hard its double yours but that the pay off of the V8 burble...

Thanks for all the info guys.

ill do a bit more research and talk to a couple of specialists and see what I come up with. Hopefully I can find something to help give me  a few more km's out of a tank.

im only new to 4wd trip so hopefully I'll get to meet everyone on some future trips out in the scrub.

thanks

Graeme

Hi Graeme,

I happened to be speeking to a mate in the NT last night and he does a lot of HYW k's and not much else (rides his treadly to work, shopping etc..) so as part of our natter I asked about the consumption figs in his cars.

He drives a bog standard 100 series DX (including skinnies) so it's the 1HZ with the 5 speed and is now at around 250k's on the dial ... it has a bull bar but no winch nor anything else and he said 800k's is about what he expects from a fill.

He used to have a trooppie with the same set up though the tank capacity in that was 160lts and the best he ever got from that when really trying to stretch it out was just under 1200k's to a fill - that was not travelling over 90kph on a constant run ..... wonder why you'd bother really but you'd have to know him to understand.

I'm not sure how this helps but it does remind me to ask whether you still have the standard tank capicity in the vehicle i.e. 141ltrs or have you replaced the sub tank for a larger unit?

Regards

Mark

Hi Graeme,

G'day Mark

the tanks on my cruiser are 95 main and 50sub tank. I normally drive both tanks down untill the fuel light comes on to work out my consumption figures.

My truck never used to be this bad on fuel it's always been realy good. I've spent a fair amount of $$ lately to try and improve the consumption but not getting any better.

the reason I started this post was to see if anybody else had any fuel troubles and if there was any way to improve my figures.

I appreciate everybody's feedback and comments as it's given me a few more things to look at.

maybe it's just age of the truck and km's that's making it use more fuel.

thanks

Graeme

Hi hear you, good luck with your enquiries ..... it seems such a massive drop from where it was to where it is now so I was fishing to see if you'd changed your methods of calculating the consumption figs.

The only way I used to do it differently was from the litres I paid for according to my fuel receipts to get a much more accurate read of fuel used .... not sure if that'd do much to make you feel any better though.

As mentioned, good luck

regards

Mark

i suppose having a big truck with all the fun gear on it , throw in the wife, kids and camping gear  and be ready to empty the wallet for a weekend away.

thanks for all your input. Hope to meet you on a future trip.
