Gday all,

my Hilux has just finished it stint of capped price servicing at Toyota and now I want to avoid getting my pants pulled down by them as they try to recover the money they lost under said scheme.

Can anyone recommend a trustworthy and reliable mechanic who doesn't mind doing 4x4 maintenance or repairs.

I live in the North Melbourne area but would be will to travel 25km in any direction to go to one that has been recommended.

thanks

Hey mate,

I have a 2013 Toyota Hilux Dual cab. I've been going to Exceed Auto at 73 Ashley Street Maidstone 9362-0024 for over 10 years now, they also do my wifes Camry and my mums Corolla. They are a Repco Authorised Dealer and their prices are very reasonable. They also offer a courtesy car if you book in advance...

The owners Pete & Dave are 4WD nuts and know everything there is to know. They have installed my snorkle and lift kit - they love everything 4WD and their own rigs are setup for serious off roading.

Good Luck

Pete

Ashfords automotive repairs in Glenroy. I've been taking my fj to Paul there since the beginning and he is the most honest and reasonably priced mechanic I've had. He also has a passion for 4wds and classics.

I use Campellfield Gas Conversions in Campbellfield. They are specialists in 4x4s. Great prices. Doesn't rip you off. They really know there stuff. Getting diffs rebuilt there next week along with service.

So many people happy with there mechanic

i use JW auto gas in Werribee. Very happy with them

had my car trucked there by racv after a breakdown on a 4WD trip . I couldn't  find the problem , crew couldnt , racv mechanic couldn't . Burnt oxygen sensor wire blew a fuse , fixed no charge

next service I offered $100 extra cause he's been so good and he refused, said just refer people to him.

Maybe a bit far for you but for anyone in the west give him a call

I was in the exact same situation a year ago. Being bent over by Toyota. I was recommended to Metro Motors in Gaffney st Coburg. Could not be happier. Great work. Realistic prices. If they moved to Adelade, I think i would follow them. Be careful of Guests in Fairfield. I found them just as expensive as Toyota.
Give Ange a call at Metro Motors. You won't be Dissapointed.
Good luck.

Guest 4wd is expensive, no doubt about it. But it absolutely reflects in the quality of work and service you get.

their knowledge not only about 4x4s but also about 4wding in every corner of Australia is just priceless.

I go solo to the most remote places (CSR, etc) and stuff like the Simpson is just a Sunday cruise for me. Being able to say to your mechanic "I am going to do xyz solo, not towing" and they tell you exactly what you need to do/change on your rig to have a trouble free trip is just worth every dollar. Other than tyre punctures, I did not have any issues on any trips in the last 10 years since the crew at Guest is looking after my trucks.

if you are just after basic oil change/check brakes I am sure you will find other good and more economical options. If you are going real out bush, I nowadays don't leave before my car got a good look over at Guest.

Cheers

Andre
