Hi everyone just wondering about peoples opinions on having duel wheel carriers on rear bar as far as weight on the back of the vehicle.

Find out what your GVM is for your vehicle, then load it with all your camping gear including full fuel tank and water gerry's etc.

Take it to a weighbridge, (lots of tips have them).

Then you'll see how much weight you have to play with.

Most people get a shock when they find out how close or in fact they are well over the limit already.

If you find you are well within the limit then investigate it further.

I considered one for our last big trip, went pretty remote up through the gammon rangers, several things came to mind, weight, cost, need.

How many trips have you seen someone blow 2 tyres to the point neither could be repaired? For me never...

I think 99% of people have duel carriers because they think it looks cool with there over size tyres....

On the big trip I took a spare tyre, tube and tyre levers and put it on the roof rack, didn't get 1 punture let alone needing a second tyre and we covered over 4000km of dirt some of it extreemly rocky and harsh conditions and at times where 500km from the nearest town

Totally agree with the above opinions, it's just adding unwanted stress to the vehicle. A lot of 4wds are overloaded with accessories just for looks.

If you really want to waste $2000 just give it to me and I'll blow it at the casino, it would be a good night though. Seriously though unless you are doing lots of big outback trips it's not needed, like Matt said may people just don't need them, modern tyres are so much better these days, having one spare and tools to fix a puncture is probably all you need.

I have twin wheel carriers on my bar at the moment and I only ever used one until recently it has even changed the way the car handles the combination of the 2 33 inch mud tyres rear draws and tent and fridge must take away alot of the vehicals handeling and power , I would love to take this stuff off and weigh it .

The tip at coldstream has a weighbridge, maybe have a look at your current weight vs the GVM.
