High country loop.

Forum > Your Trip Report & Experience

Hey guys, just recently finished a trip through the high country with my mate.
We started at Mt.stirling, and travelled towards twins jeep track.
Twins jeep was great, had a little trouble with a down tree on the road, and had to back track a bit.
This leads us to Mt Murray... I highly suggest to climb it and check out the views.
Was sensational, the top you can camp on.
After coming through twins jeep to Mt Hotham. We decided to go check out omeo.
Main pub was alright, two servos however only one is manned by day.
Fuel was about 155 per litre... Unleaded.
The court house is good for a look I suppose.
But the road from Hotham there was great, so Many view points.
We did blue rag range, good track, easy as pie.
Once at the top, the track continues down the other side.
Don't waste your time with this... There is a river crossing and two camp spots at the end.

We finished blue rag and followed the tracks to talbotville, the way down got really fun towards the bottom...
Toilet was available and river, big open space.
Crooked river was easy as water levels were low as.
Good hope mine is near by and about 30 minute walk up to see an old boiler and crusher...

This brings us to Dargo, pub is a+
Camping behind is allowed.
I ran into some trouble as I noticed that a trailing arm bolt was missing.
Local mechanic is at a caravan park 10 kms out of town.
Use if a must.
As I'd hate to see his invoices.... But when you need help, it's there
Fuel was about 155 still.
Did billy goats bluff to Licola
Pinnacles lookout is a must see, absolutely amazing.

Licola fuel was 177 but a good place to stop for lunch.
Scenery changed and reminded me of the Kimberley rangers haha
Very dry.

There was a mining wheel that we wanted to see near by.
This is were things got interesting, about 15kms south is a road to the right called Pyrenees track or something... Take that, serious track and the most challenging of the trip.
But this took us into a mining forest with plenty of points to see.
Such as cemetery, old mining equipment and even remains of towns like toombon
After spending a day here, and seeing the wheel on little morning Starr track.
We headed to Marysville and then Home.

Every track we did was easy to medium
Covered it all in five days just relaxing through it all.

Going back in the winter to do it all again.
