Following on from the beginners register post on the forum I would like to run the first of my trips aimed purely at the first timers to offroading. This is a trip that I ran last year in a stock 95 Pajero. Another beginner driver did it with me in a stock PX Ranger. I found it to be a wonderful learning route as it contains a lot of different types of terrain - rock, mud, loose shale, ruts, steeps. It has it.all - even a few gentle river crossings. I will be going through some briefing about correct use of tyre pressure adjustments, some essential techniques on performing recoveries, and I will be taking you through tracks that you would look at and think there is no way you'd be able.to drive them! Believe me, you can!
As conditions can be unpredictable I will have a few routes planned, however I do insist that you come with at least a set of good tyres. Stock tyres that aren't worn are ok. Also, this is a trip for true 4wds. This means you must have selectable low range gearing. I am not going to demand that you have your own recovery equipment, but you will need a UHF radio. Hand-held is fine.
There will be some daunting sections of this trip - I remember the first time I did the route and a few sections had my adrenalin pumping and nerves a little frayed. But the next time I did the same route I walked through it like it was nothing - this is the experience I want to share to help you develop your skills and confidence.

We will camp at O'Tooles camp ground which has drop box toilets and a central gazebo, however you will need to be self sufficient with food, water and all other needs for the trip as there are no shops or fuel stations where we are headed.
FILL UP YOUR FUEL AT MOE OR TYERS!!! This is your last fuel stop. A full tank will do the round trip comfortably from there. Don't ruin it for others by running out of fuel.
