One day in Cobaw MEDIUM / HARD

Cobaw State Forest, VIC

See more trips

Hi, just joined this website and want to organise a day out in Cobaw on this Saturday, 07/05.

Have been there twice and found so many interesting tracks.

Trip rating will depend on who are coming but hopefully we can try some challeging tracks such as Alcorns Track if everyone has a winch.

first 3 pics show the track I have tried last time, no problem if you get a locker.

last 3 pics are Alcorns track. This one is pretty challeging, so locker is a must and winch is highly recommended.

alcorns is possible without a locker. but be prepared for a little damage. apparently you will need a chainsaw after the storms, i have heard that its pretty messy in the cobaws at the moment

thanx for reminding me of the storm. Yeah, a chainsaw will be really helpful.

Cobaw is one of my favourite places to go 4WDing.

Alcorns is only really step in the 1 section, although the track itself branches off in 4 different directions.

Make sure you give these tracks a crack;
- Muirs Track
- Pinnacle Track
- Mansfield track
- Natives Track
- Camp Track
- Soil Pit Track
- Stumpy Truck
- Goochs Track
- Smiths Track

I did Smiths track and turned into Mansfield track as my second proper 4wd trip.. It was awesome, great challenges for a beginner.. Definitely not a challenge for advanced drivers.. Tried going up muirs track.. But was steep, huge rocks and was getting dark.. So went back up Mansfield and Smith.. Was great fun and going up wasn't much of a problem either!

Anyway, have fun hopefully someone will join you.. I would come but unfortunately have other plans.

Hi Lu
Thanks for posting your first trip. Unfortunately there were not much takers for some reasons. Usually Cobaw is very popular on our site. Prehaps if you can give at least 2 weeks notice next time, it will usually have more time for people to commit and join your trips. Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions.
