* NOTE - Trip itinerary has changed for the better (again). In the interest of a better trip I've reversed the direction. This will mean we'll be heading mostly uphill instead of down and we'll camp at better spots. It's also the same distance back to melbourne from both ends; about 2.5 hours. Meeting spot is now Cheynes Bridge Camping Area at Reids's Flat on the Macalister River; GPS 37°45.818'S, 146°40.068'E. It's about 20km short of Licola and hard to miss. I'll be there by about 5pm Friday.
I think the trip plan gets heaps out of a shortish weekend trip. This trip is 150kms of tracks and will cover a fair amount of ground, so we'll be leaving fairly early Saturday morning. It's best if you stay the friday night at the camp spot if you can. We'll zig and zag our way from the Licola region up to a camp ground on Butcher Country Track. On the first day we'll be taking tracks like Dingo Hill, B1, Chromite Mine and Burgoynes. The second day we'll head through King Billy and Howqua Hills ending up near Sawmill Settlement. If the weather is great we'll gain time and be able to deviate from the plan. There will be huge camp fires and amazing rivers to camp near.
You'll need fuel reserves for this trip; bring jerrys! You'll need fuel for about 220kms. The last reliable fuel is at Heyfield for the entire trip; but you can go to Mansfield or Mirimbah on the way out. You MUST have mud tyres for this trip! You must have front and rear recovery points and be completely self sufficient. You must have a working winch, etc, etc. You must have a well serviced vehicle, not a weekend beater for this trip. There are serious tracks on this itinerary, so please only join if you're ready for it.
On a lighter note, I'm looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones. Family are welcome to come along and PM me if you have any great track ideas for this trip; I'm happy to take ideas on board.
