Border Track and the Pyrenees MEDIUM / HARD

Ngarkat Conservation Park SA & Pyrenees Avoca, VIC

See more trips

The Border Track has always been on my 'bucket list', as has the Pyrenees area near Avoca. So a couple of mates are joining me & I thought there might be a few here ( 3 spots available) who are also interested in driving this iconic track.

I know there a quite a few trips running over the Easter Break and the dates I have chosen will not be suitable for most, but my rationale for heading up a few days prior to the easter hollies are;

1. Border Track reopens on Wed April 1st & hopefully we will be one of the 1st, if not the 1st, group of vehicles on the track.

2. Dont like going anywhere on the main days over Easter as everywhere is BUSY BUSY BUSY....frown.

So the plan of attack is to either meet at the BP as mentioned above OR at the BP Pinaroo

(7.5 hrs from Melbourne) to refuel & pay required camping fee/permit to enter the area. From here, we will head to Pine Hut Soak Campground (toilets) for the night. Next day the adventure will begin & Wednesday night we will camp at Red Bluff Campground. Thursday we will complete the remainder of the Border Track then make our way to the Pyrenees, (aprox 4 hr drive from Teloplea Downs) & more than likely set up camp mid afternoon at Glenpatrick Reserve for a couple of nights. Friday & part of Saturday will be driving the various tracks around the area & either head home Sat arvo or 1st thing Sunday morning.

This trip will be either tents, swags, rooftop tents etc (no camper trailers) & everyone must be self sufficent with water/food etc as there is no drinkable water on the track. Also no pets or fires are allowed on the Border Track, so you will need to leave your '4 legged friends' at home. Fires are allowed at Red Bluff Campground, weather permitting. All vehicles must be in good mechanical condition & each vehicle must have recovery gear & uhf radio. A sandflag would be preferred but I do have one as I believe at least the lead vehicle must display one.

Whilst I do not mean to offend, if you are a 4wder who feels the need to have to' proove how good you are' by driving as far as you can in 2wd before engaging 4wd, drive at 'warp factor' speed & have no interest in at least attempting to minimize damage to tracks etc etc, in other words like being a hoon, this is not a trip for you.

As I mentioned earlier, dates are probably not suitable to most so I dont expect any interest, but if you are and you have any questions/queries, do not hesitate to ask.

Cheers

Allan
