Beginners trip through Tallarook Round 2 EASY / MEDIUM

Tallarook State Forest, VIC

See more trips
Following on from the success of the last beginners trip, I am running another one as another chance for those who missed out. Will most probably follow the same route as it worked nicely.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS TRIP IS FOR THOSE WHO HAVE DONE VERY LITTLE OR NO 4WDING! It will include guidance on how to use your transfer gearing correctly - i.e. 2H, 4H & 4L, as well as recovery gear and techniques.

The tracks are suitable for stock vehicles.

THE ONLY REQUIREMENT IS A UHF RADIO - HANDHELD IS FINE. If you have recovery equipment and an air compressor / deflator, please bring it with you.

It will be a full day driving, aiming to finish on the tracks by around 3.30/4pm, so please bring lunch and refreshments. Toilet paper is advised in case nature calls. There are no toilets where we are headed.

Family friendly. We will have our 1 y/o son with us.

I guess it's the trip leaders call but a beginners trip suitable for stock vehicles shouldn't include big wheeled lifted and locked cars.
There's probably a lot of beginners in stock cars would like to get on board. .
Just my 2 cents worth :)

Mate a lot of people buy already kitted out vehicles as their first 4wd.

Hey Winston, is this trip for anyone that took part in the first trip or are you only looking for totally new participants?

It really is appreciated, we all have to start somewhere. Have done a basic 4WD course but looking forward to this. Cheers!

Winston - first and foremost I know there's probably plenty out there like myself who are extremely grateful for you dedicating your time where you could be out having your own fun yet you've chosen to impart your knowledge onto us newbies so thank you!

Secondly I notice a few kids going...anyone keen to throw out their little ones age?

I'm thinking of bringing my son along and he's 4 (ask him and he won't forget to remind you he's 4 AND A HALF).

I too am very grateful to Winston. Very keen to get out there and learn. My kids are a bit older at 14 & 16. The 16yo is already at me to clock a few hours up on his L plates, but there is no way he is getting any of this fun.

Hey guys 1 day out from the trip. Spend a little time this evening checking over your vehicle, make sure your oil and coolant etc are at the correct levels.

Today's forecast is for a bit of rain up this way so the tracks may be a bit greasy tomorrow. The route I run will be challenging at times but I will make decisions on track selection to ensure safety first and foremost.

Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow morning.

Hi Winston. With the few dropouts you have had I have jumped on this trip. Happy to remove myself if you prefer. Am looking at this to learn more about Tallarook as have only been there twice. Happy to tail end for the day if you like.

I've included 2 extra spots FOR BEGINNERS as I have experienced drivers Faris and Greg who will provide convoy backup.

Also, just to be clear, when you join the trip that is for one vehicle only. Not multiple vehicles under your name.

Thanks guys, had an awesome day! Thanks again to Winston, Farris and Greg. Prado made it through the city then proceeded to dump its tranny fluid and get home on a flat bed.. That evil rock cracked the case.. will have a closer look when it’s daylight. Still a cracking day. Cheers guys 👍

I don’t want just comment that this was a nice trip and was fun. I want to say to everyone that it was full of experience for new people who start four wheel driving. I thank everyone who lead the trip today for explaining to all the drivers how to be safe on the tracks. What Winston and Greg did today for me was very helpful for not only me but other drivers. Big thanks for everyone who was there.

Well what a great day out. Good to meet new people and as always learn new tracks. Everyone drove very well and it was so good to see people gain confidence and ability as they became more familiar with the capabilities of their respective vehicles. Faris and Winston did a great job helping newer people out as well. If their is anyone out there wanting to learn more about this amazing hobby you would do well to get yourself on a trip lead by Winston. His knowledge and skills are very good and he is more than happy to teach and assist people wanting to start out. Great day and well done to all that came.

I agree with all of the above comments this has been one of the best 4x4 driving trips as a beginner that i have ever been on. I have learnt so much about my vehicle and driving techniques, and a big thanks to Winston for running an unbelievable trip and to Greg and Farris for their knowledge and expertise. It was great meeting new people in the same predicament as me. A great group of people.
Thanks a hell of a lot
