The famous loop Big River to Woods Point EASY / MEDIUM

Big river, mount Matlock, woods point, VIC

See more trips

The famous loop Big River to Woods Point and camping overnight at woods point. Meet at warburton Saturday morning coming back Sunday afternoon.  The trip is fairly easy (but not at all boring) which I have done many times now as it is such a good trip.  Hopefully we can see snow and then find a nice spot by the river where we can kick back around a fire.

If you are looking for a trip to bash your car around, this is not the trip for you.

Also if you have joined and then cannot make it for any reason please jump out of the trip as soon as possible to give someone else the opportunity to join.

Yes passenger side surprised me never heard a noise so I'm going to get new one plus a spare for each side and learn how to do them myself

Hey guys, great to have you onboard. I've yet to meet Thurston so that's cool.

Hopefully we get some nice weather for that weekend.

Everyone in this trip maybe with the exception of Thurston has done it. It's actually Alex's loop which I think I've done a least 20 times now. It's pretty easy and there are off shoots off it where you can do some fun stuff. Cars should come back in one piece.

Alex and Steve, hopefully we can get that same spot as last time where we camped. Any questions let me know.

Andrew me and Steven changed both CV's on my Navara back in February... your d40 might be different but really there isn't much to it on the d22! Very easy to replace if you have some basic tools and a good spanner / ratchet set.

Is the d40 same CV left and right? D22 has same CV either end so one spare can be used left or right... Most cars have different length ones left and right.

Good luck with it, should not be too hard.

What's the last proper fuel (bp, caltex, shell) before we head off road and after? How many kms we got in between? I don't like filling up from general stores etc..

My sub tank light came on in the Patrol and fuel transfer isn't working.. Got a sub full of fuel but can't use it. I'll try fixing it this week (already disconnected battery and reset it 3 times with no luck).. But if I can't fix it, Wondering if my main (90 litres) by itself will be enough for this trip.. She loves to drink.

Please let me know.

I usually fill up at boronia which is some distance from warburton. A full tank does me the whole weekend. I would guess 300kms for the whole trip.

Hi everyone, early weather forecast are saying rain all this week plus into the weekend therefore is it looks like rain all weekend I may pull the pin on the trip. Camping in the rain is never that fun. If this is the case more than happy to re-schedule for next week (bye week in footy as well).

Hopefully jane bunn is wrong.

Hey guys
I just got a call from the people fitting my tray. There’s an opening this Saturday to get it fitted or a 5 week wait. I’m sorry to pull out of the trip (the weather forecast helped my decision).
Hope you all have a great weekend.

I agree with Eli, if its miserable weather I'd rather be in front of my toasty fire at home.
Happy to re-schedule if it loks like crud.

Now Gazza, that middle rut hasn't changed in donkelys years. The hole on the right always hikes the left front as the right rear drops into it. I've driven it on sunny days, on rainy days, on snowy days, at night, pretty much everything bar a cyclone. Power on and drive through :-) But if its raning this weekend I'm going to pike out.

WITHDRAWN from Trip - Reason: Unfortunately I have to withdraw from the trip. Aside from the miserable weather, both my Patrol and Navara need some attention (Patrol subtank issues, Navara potentially blown rear diff).. yay the fun of owning 2 4wd's... So my weekend is looking like a no so much fun weekend in the shed.

Would love to join, but I hate driving when car is not 100%, even if it's just a sub tank issue for the Patrol.. especially in the bush.. don't want to have any other underlying issues and needing to be towed out.

I would appreciate an invite if you guys run this trip again or reschedule.

Thanks.

So I'm back in with the change of date :-)
If the weather's good Eli I might sneak up Friday night to a little camp spot I know at the top of Big River (never seen anyone else there, EVER) and just meet you Saturday morning, we'll see what Jane B says.
If I do I'll let you know and will see you at Stockmans Saturday morning. cheers.

If I go up Friday- weather dependent- it will be late-ish, have grub in Warburton at 6 or 7 o'clock and then set up for a sleep only. There's no camp fire spot in my little hidey-hole but its beautifully grassed and level with room for a few cars. So anyones welcome or they can just go to Stockmans and camp anyway. Heh-heh everyone will have driven right past this spot but its one of Alex's FEW REMAINING secrets in that area :-)

Jane says the weather isnt likely to be on our side again :-(
Well, I googled Woods Point weather and it says a high of 5 and a low of 3 Saturday and a high of 4, low of "ZERO" Sunday. Both days cloudy so far :-(
