Another Selma Snow Run MEDIUM

Walhalla/Mt Baw Baw area, VIC

See more trips

With more snow forecast for tomorrow night, have decided to do one more trip up to Mt Selma. This leisurely trip will include a number of medium rated tracks with a few river crossings, so those looking for the 'hard stuff', dont bother joining this trip. Once we arrive at the trig point at Mt Selma, we will stop for a lunchbreak/snow play etc then make our way back via Mt Selma Rd towards Walhalla Rd. If time is on our side and lots of snow, we may branch off via Champion Spur Tk and make our way home via the Warburton/Woods Point Rd. It will be a big day, so dont expect to arrive home until well after dark.

Trip is family friendly, so feel free to bring partners/children along. Even though trip is only rated 'medium', vehicle requirements are as follows;

Minimum of 31" tyres, either A/T's or muddies (NO H/T TYRES)

Basic recovery gear and UHF (incar or handheld). Winch preferred but not mandatory.

If vehicle does not have a snorkle, a waterblind/tarp is advisable for potentially deep river crossings.

All vehicles must have low range, so no SUV's

All participants must be self sufficent with food/drinks and ensure you have warm clothing. Last fuel is available in Moe so ensure you have enough fuel to cover aprox 300 klms.

PS: Please be at the Thomson Dam no later than 9.15am for introductions/drivers briefing as I wish to be on our way by 9.30am SHARP.

As per all my trips, you must 'check in' by the cut off time. 'CHECK IN' is no later than 4pm on Friday and if you have not checked in by then, you will be removed and someone else given the opportunity of attending. Any questions, feel free to ask.

That was quick. Been in the snow for the last 2 weeks so need time off. Have fun there was lots up there last week.

Yes Pauly, it filled quicker than I expected. Had a sneaky suspicion that Alex might want to go for another drive and good to see him bringing Tina and the boys.

Just to save any confusion re; meeting place, it is at the dam wall, not at the picnic area that has a turn off a kay or so before on the left.

Getting older Al? You need the Ranger now with all the bells and whistles, they drive themselves mate you are going to love it. I'm just glad you have lots of experience you know these new cars do it all with a push of a button, if you don't have the 4x4 experience they could be dangerous. but you already know that.

I know why you got it mate watching my old girl in action, you couldn't help yourself you just had to do it.... See gang Allan saw the light.

No need for you to reply Alex.....we all know the LS2 6.0 V8 had to drag me over a bump or two....ok a little hill.....ok over a bloody mountain.... which by the way I have not forgotten

Have fun Al, had my wisdom teeth out this morning, so probably not a good idea to go wheeling myself.

Had a fair bit of rain around here, not flood worthy but be cautious on those crossings.

Better to be safe rather than sorry Big Kev. Remember you have to be fully fit for your HC trip in November.

Wonder if any of those who were interested take the final spot?

Hi all
Should be at Longwarry Caltex just after 7am
According to Google Maps its a 56min drive from home at the moment, so in the Pootrol a little bit longer :-)
15 Sep 2017
Trip Leader Allan (allanmac) Premium Member
Thanks for that Trevor; see you at the servo.

Matt, I wasnt planning on doing Fultons this trip for 2 reasons, 1 being they have had a fair bit of rain up that way and 2, would like to get to the snow before it all gets ripped up by the cowboys. According to 'Janey', snow down to 800 mtrs tonight and early tomorrow morning.

Lol, about 2 hours. Spooled it out under tension, washed it, sun dried and a good dose of WD. Then spooled in evenly under load, good for another 30 years. Mebbe I'll stay with wire....

There is also a couple of clips in this account from when Clive with the Landy 110 and ourselves (my son Matt was driving) came from Jamesion-Licola Rd after doing Mt Sunday Track/Barkley River Jeep Track earlier this year and were able to cross the Goulburn River from where we had to back track yesterday due to river height. Just after crossing you can go left (the easy way) or go straight up basically following the ridge.
