Mt Dissapointment MEDIUM / HARD

Mt Dissapointment, VIC

See more trips

First time leading a trip so it will just be a casual day out. No real plan. Probably head up Quarry rd, The ladder, Pipeline and anything else that we see so I've selected Medium/Hard.

Most of these are drivable on 31's (except pipeline) but please have decent rubber and a working winch for if it turns nasty or we find something a bit more challenging.

Ben's winch is definitely working. It's been known to pull down trees..

Braden:

Quarry has some tough to very tough sections but go-arounds that are medium (heading west to east, climbing).

The Ladder (the Bump) would require probably a 2" lift and potentially a locker or otherwise some berries and nuts to go with them. Some bog holes at the bottom, then a bit of a wind up to the top section which has a big wheel lift corner followed by a bit of a step. Also needs low tyre pressure.

Pipeline is mostly easy apart from a very intense climb down the bottom. I've attempted it twin locked, 33 aggressive MT's on 4" lift and failed after several goes. It also has a go-around. For the most part I'd call it easy-medium for an experienced driver. Lots of tree dodging.

Edit: I meant Quarry from West to East. Starting down at the Stony Creek End heading towards Main Mountain Rd.

To add to that, if you cross Stony Creek at the Western end of Quarry there is a section now loosely known as Triton Hill. Wrecked Triton at the bottom and a nasty climb up to Spur Rd. Twin locked and serious vehicles only.

I agree with all this. I live 10 mins away from dissa. I have driven all 3 tracks on 31's but it was a smallish ZG Cherokee with coils all round. Ill leave it up to the owner of each vehicle to make the call.

Seems like 1-2 people pull the pin closer to or on the day, keen if there's any drop outs. 👍🏻

Having just completed all those tracks you listed I would have to say you were pretty right on the money.
I would have rated the trip hard compared to other trips I have done rated medium/hard.
We did that Wrecked Triton climb to Spur road also.
Was white knuckles most of the way, wouldn't dare attempt again in the rain.

Usually the videos make hills look like nothing... but that hill looks epic, so I'm guessing it's genuinely scary in real life!

I was shitting myself when I got hung on that rock.
2 vehicles in our group with more brains than me decided to take a different route.
According to the 4x4 Earth Tracks database it has a Very difficult rating.
Would be fun going down it as well from Spur road.

Mick, I shat myself watching the youtube video haha let alone you in the car!

Front locker would have made it much easier! Got mine installed today :D
22 Sep 2017
Mick (Grey Ranger)
Front locker would have made a big difference.
In the end more right foot and a better line closer to the trees was all that was needed.
Did you get a rear locker to Thurstain or just front?

Yes right foot usually does it haha! Bloody good driving none the less.

No in the rear I have a very good LSD, for now it's doing a great job (it's what got me up Strickland spur without a lot of trouble!) so not worth it to spend money on it for now.. Maybe in the future when my build is complete..
