Brandon (neighbours kid) and myself recently did a trip and thought it would great to lead our own excursion for 4wdtrip.com. The tracks are open again in November and a trip to Wombat and Lerderderg will be great to wipe the winter cobwebs off the NIssan Patrol.
The tracks we will be traveling are Holts Road, Nuggety Track, Radcliffe Track, Charcoal Track + a few others if time permits. Thought we would stop for a long social lunch if the weather is kind, so bring a chair and some snags. Family and kids welcome.
Although I have listed no winch or recovery gear as mandatory - you will be required to drive a low range 4wd that must have either excellent All-terrain or mud tyres (stock road tyres will not cut it, sorry). There are some reasonably steep tracks, steps and boggy sections on these tracks so your vehicle needs to be a competent 4wd. You must have rated recovery points front and rear. I do not recommend first time 4wders or P platers attempting this trip, ideally you will have some experience 4wding. If there is rain then the tracks do change but still do-able with good tyres. This is not a wombat boghole run. Finally, you will need an air compressor to re-inflate your tyres for the trip home.
The above paragraph is intended for you to make an informed choice about both your & your vehicles capabilities and type of 4wding you like to do.
