Big River to Mount Matlock EASY / MEDIUM

Big River to Mount Matlock, VIC

See more trips

Easy day trip from Big River to Mount Matlock. The trip is fairly easy but might have some sections that may be a little rutty and slippery, but nothing to worry about. I have done this trip several times and the first time was when my car was completely stock. Bring lunch and snacks, warm clothes as there might be snow.  Not planning a massive day, hoping to be back in Warburton by 3pm.

G'day guys, I've joined the trip but I just wanted to ask, I've got a leak from my front diff due to be fixed Monday . The mechanic reckons there will always be enough oil left in there because of the shape of the diff. Do you think I'll be right to come along for the trip with this issue?

Would love to come along. Went out with Eli last week and he is a great trip leader. Just not sure if I can get there in time from Shepparton.

hey mate, i am not sure as i am not a mechanic, i guess you need to make that decision. Totally up to you.
The trip isn't going to be difficult again your decision and at your risk.

You don't really want to risk running a diff dry just for a day of 4wding in my opinion, especially considering your diff(s) will be under a lot more stress out on the tracks
That being said we've all done sketchy stuff and there's every chance you'll be fine!

Hey Eli, I'm going to be around Mansfield area Sunday... Where is the actual trip starting from? Might be able to meet up at a closer meeting point than Warburton?

Looking forward to this trip as I haven't seen snow for a year or two, hopefully we get to drive on some at higher altitude around Matlock.
Eli - I did a Bunyip trip with you when your Triton was stock, with an FJ, Wrangler, GU and 100 series
Sold my Pajero now I've got a triton too 😎😁

Hi there mate, I agree with Eli. Dont risk it bud look it might be a very small leak and you could get thousands of kilometres before the dif is empty and dry but when you go four wheel driving you would want to make sure your vehicle is spot on and ready for a challenge even though the trip will be mainly easy but I would not do it if I was you and I am sure many other members would agree with that as what Eli mentioned before, not worth it to run your diff dry and burn it for the sake of one day four wheel driving. Again its your decision mate.
wish you the best of luck mate.

Hi Eli,

I am new to 4wding.
Drive Navara Np300 complete stock, with company fitted R18 wheels n tyres.
Do have a nudge bar.

Is this ok track for a stock vehicle? And r u ready to take a beginner.

Thanks

Hi Manjeet,

Although i have done in my stock triton i had previous experience and the triton has more ground clearance than most other stock utes. I would say for this trip probably not for someone completely new. However I have recently ran some easy trips around Marysville which are good for beginners as there is a variety of tracks to build confidence so look out for them as i will do a couple more of them over winter.
