Hey all, I'm planning a high country trip leaving the day after Boxing day, and returning by either the 30th/31st. 

This will be my first high country trip, and I have a small amount of experience driving however been passenger many times in other's cars, so don't expect insane tracks, but I'm always up for a challenge on the track.

 

As I realise it'll be very busy out there, I would prefer to keep the group to around 4 or 5 cars, and ideally some more experienced people I can suck information/experiences/techniques from.

 

As far as tracks go, I wouldn't mind going to some of the iconic ones like Billygoats and Blue Rag, however I'm also open to opinions and the route may change once we're up there 
(*NOTE* I currently have no particular route in mind, but I'll work on it when I get a chance to sit down with the maps)

As expected, everyone will need to be self sufficient for theirselves and any passengers.

Hope to finally get to meet some faces!

Liam, great to see you leading a trip mate If I could get the time off work I wouldn't mind coming along with you.Liam you are quite welcome to join up with us on the Friday night at Talbotville. and I am sure Gazza and I will give you some pointers on the High Country. Saturday is going to be tame and hard but nothing any of the vehicles including yours wont be able to do.

I wouldn't mind going up been a couple of times in groups with experienced drivers so followed them and their instructions on line and gears but done billy goats twice going down time to do a it more on my own back

Sounds good Mark, would love to have anyone along with more experience than myself in the area.
I'll add more details to the trip as I work them out.

G'day Neil, not sure at this stage, but I tend to move on each day to try see as much as possible and avoid driving the same tracks twice. Can also cover more ground too.

Do you have any suggestions either way? As I mentioned, I'm new to it all so I am also open to suggestions for routes and tracks to take.

Last night I smashed an upper ball joint, brake hose, and driveshaft popped out.. really hoping to have it all fixed in the next couple of days, and really hoping it's nothing more than that, they will cause any setbacks for this trip..

Hi Liam, have 28/29th off and looking at catching up. May stay overnight on the 28th for a beer, see how we go and will let you know closer to the date. Wife is trying to get me to go to Melb for shopping on the 29th but trying to avoid that like the plague!!! Just did a run through the crooked River/ Billys and Collingwood etc. was very good. Sure is bud!
Just gotta suss out my winch, hoping it's just a solenoid and I'm good to go. Got a spare solenoid on standby, just need the time to change it and test.

Ok guys & girls, the plan so far is to drive from the Maccas in Moe, departing at 9:30 sharp pretty much directly to camp at Talbotville, then to head off for a few tracks in the arvo, depending how we're going for time.
If we can secure a decent enough of a site, we'll use this as our base camp for the few days, and return for the nights.
Tracks on the agenda will be Billygoats, Blue Rag, Bulltown, Zeska Spur, and open to other opinions too..

I will probably be grabbing a coffee at Maccas Stud Park S.C around 7am-ish, if you'd like to tag along, I'll be on CH17 and we can drive down together.
Otherwise, see you all at Moe at 8:30.

Hey mate, it's an 830 meet for a 930 depart.
That gives us enough time for a bit of food, coffee, banter and to talk about the tracks we'll be doing.
I'm thinking a return of thurs or fri, see how we're going.

Unfortunately guys, due to some family commitments that have only just arisen, I'm going to have to postpone the trip until next week.
If I had notice any earlier I would have posted, but I've spent the morning today to try make arrangements so I could still go, however I can't.

I'm happy for the people that have confirmed to continue to go without me, but I'll b changing the even dates to next week.

Hey all, just want to double check that those that are still showing "going" to this trip are still planning on going next week, now that the date has changed.
If you're not going, or have changed to a maybe, please change your status to reflect this.

Also, just to double check as well, everyone should have a snorkel and a UHF. Even a handheld will be sufficient, as long as you bring enough batteries or its rechargeable.
Don't forget, you'll also need to be fully self sufficient with a fridge/ice box, and enough food for 4 days, even if it onny turns out to be a 3 day trip (never hurts to be over prepared), also if you're self recoverable, that'd be nice 👍🏻
