Hi Guys,

It looks like there's another cold front coming through this week with snow fall predicted Wednesday through to Saturday. I'd like to take advantage of this and run a trip leaving from Marysville up to Mt Matlock, then over to the Kevington hotel for lunch and then up to Mt Terrible for a look, then home most likely back through Marysville.

Hi Timmz, I don't speak for the trip organiser but I think 33" and 35" won't make too much difference on the snow trip. Your good skills should make up the 2" difference :)

Hi Timmz,

I'm not sure where alpine diesel is available in the area, I'm not sure if Marysville stocks it or not, I've done a couple of snow trips without issue, I believe the main issue is when parking the vehicle overnight in such conditions. I'll try and do a bit more research into where it's available. No worries Harps, I've done a bit of planning over the last couple of nights, I've planned on the assumption that we will cover similar ground to a trip that we went on a couple of years ago where the snow fall was pretty thick and took some time to cover ground, if the conditions end up being better than expected we can do some exploring around the area, should be a great trip!

Hi Paulieeee, I will be bring my kids (6 and 3) for the snow trip if I can get my car back by Sat. It would be great if we can make some quick stops throughout the trip so that my kids can have some snow play (and fight) rather than sitting in the cars for hours while dad (ME) having fun...... anyone going to bring your kids as well?

i saw that your question re anti freeze or alpine diesel was partially addressed and the answer was on the money this issues only come up as a result of 'things' going cold after a prolonged stop over i.e. over night, I've spent a bit of time in the snow in this area when I had my 80 series diesel - I never used either of the products you mentioned as it just doesn't get cold enough unless you stay high overnight for an overnight camp ....

Hi mark/Paul, yes I've since found out as you say prolonged periods of time you would need it. Should be ok for the day then. Looks like it going to be a great day, can't wait.

Hey Timmz, worst case scenario, we can make a fire and you drive over it to heat up your fuel tank to get the fuel flowing....that's how they do it in Siberia :)

Paul, looks like the trip is already full with 6 cars going including yours. Do you want to stop others from joining the trip or do you prefer to invite more cars (in case some don't turn up) ?

I've increased the trip to 8 cars, that should still be ok as I don't predict that we will be doing a lot of winching etc, and as mentioned some cars may pull out closer to the day.

No worries mate. I expect more cars will be joining the trip in the coming days (including myself). Currently our system does not stop members from joining once it has reached to the max. number allowed. No worries Kelvin, there shouldn't be anything very difficult involved on the trip, I've included army track on the way to the Kevington hotel lunch stop if we have the time. Forecast now has snow falling down to 500m on Saturday, looks like there could be a fair bit of snow up there!

Kelvin or Paulieee , not sure who to address this to,seeing as the snow trip on Sat 12th. appears to be full and I would love to do that trip, this is just a thought if that trip has more than 10 turn up could it be split in 2 and travel 20 to 30 minutes apart and still meet up for lunch, this is just a thought as I am trying to squeeze myself in to this trip.
Heres hoping Big Al.

Also every trip should have a Jeep. just saying.

Thanks Paul for quick response. See if you can increase the trip max vehicle allowed so that we can accept more people. That way the system csn keep trsck whos coming and we will only wait for those who join the trip... don't want to leave anyone behind at the bakery. ... just 2 more sleeps :)

No worries Big Al, yeah I wanted to try and beat the crowds, I'd love to also go up and have a look at Mt Selma and Useful, last year I went up and there was only traces of snow. Hopefully we can go up before the end of winter!!

Paul I was up there 2 week ago, we met up at Cumberland junction at 9am. then headed up to Mt. Matlock the kids played for 45 minutes then on to Mt. Selma , well that was the plan , there was that much snow we stopped a couple more times to play and before we knew it it was 3pm. so we headed for home,so if your still planning to lunch at Kevington Mt selma might be a little ambitious either way lots of snow=lots of fun.

I've just arrived home, was a lot of snow up on Matlock in the morning, and a fair bit up on Mt Terrible, it started snowing again fairly heavily as we were leaving, I hope everyone enjoyed themselves. Hope you ended up getting home ok Discomatt. Thanks Calvin for being organised with the trip attendees this morning, I'll definitely ensure to use the trip list next time. Thanx for the great day out guys, would have been better if I could have done a few more tracks but such is life, always better to get a short drive in than none at all.
Made it to Jamo no worries but the mechanic was not much help and really didn't want to tow me to Mansfield because I wasn't broken down YET even though I told him I didn't have enough gas to get there he and I was right, stopped about 16 km short of the servo, rang the RACV and got a tow to Mansfield. Alls well that ends well

A big thank you to Paul for opening up his trip to extra vehicles and allowing me to come ,I loved every part of it and meeting like minded people, sorry if I didn't get to have a good chat with you all, anyway not everything went well for the Big Pig on Saturday , during the morning the engine check light came on but didn't seem to effect anything then shortly after the ABS light came on disabling the ABS,down hill decent control,cruise control and most of all my traction control, I love my Jeep,it just keeps punching on when the chips are down, even on that steep rutted muddy climb that a few of us tried late in the day.
