Grand Final Free-camp Weekend EASY

Maryborough, VIC

See more trips

A weekend of easy tracks (ideal for newbies) consisting mainly of driveways to wineries and good food eateries. If you're on a diet I suggest you don't attend.

We concentrate on finding only the best places located between Ballarat, St.Arnaud and Bendigo.
If we find some great tracks as well its a bonus. This weekend will be great for the girls to have a go at driving (this way we boys can have a drink).

We'll be staying at Paddys Range State Park (8km SW from Maryborough) free camping

I like your style Marcel,my wife and I love that area , lots of great eateries and we love a drink, we just got back from 2 days at Creswick, checking out Talbot, Maryborough, and Avoca how ever Deb won't camp but don't count us out we could still make it work.

This is a great trip, love to see something different. A 4" lifted Grand Cherokee is definitely a head turner...

Good to see another trip for newbies. Just thinking though should it maybe be a mandatory requirement of all trips on here that all drivers have basic recovery gear?

Totally agree Winston; any trip that includes any 'off road' driving, no matter how easy, should have basic recovery gear as mandatory. Still amazes me how some 4wders dont consider it as 'must have' before going on a trip.

Sounds like it will be a great trip for 'newbies' and those who like to drink wine as there is quite a few wineries up Avoca way.

You can always find some accommodation at Maryborough and join us at the campsite in the evening and morning. Maybe when your princess sees how the other half live she may come around. My princess was a bush camping Virgin and now loves it.

I like the idea of having easy trips where recovery gear are not yet required by the newbies. As trip leader for this one I ensure I have plenty of recovery gear with, however I don't believe we will need it. Recovery gear comes in many forms, cost levels and quality. These trips are great to sit around the campfire and talk about exactly that sort of thing and give the newbies a feel and look at what "proper recovery gear" looks like, before they spend their hard earned money on a cheap eBay lightweight snatch on their 200 series

Yep I'm proud to say that I own one of the most pimped wk2's last week dropped into mid city jeep to get some weather shields and by the time I got back to the car had the workshop staff and manager looking at it and this was shortly after followed by a photo taking session by the sales staff who asked me to park it under their mid city jeep sign. Love the attention 👌🏻

    Did this trip happen?
Packed on Thursday, got up 5.45am Friday and arrived at meeting point at 7.45am.Lots of wd vehicles but could not locate leader. Tried channel 27 to no avail. I left at 8.15am. Decided to drive to campsite anyway but failed to locate. I was very close but gps did not assist me. Wife and I had a weekend away on our own.
Very disappointing. Puts me off trying again.

Hey John I'm sorry about the confusion, I had all sorts of issues trying to cancel the trip in the end I contacted the guys who run this website and they informed me that they had cancelled it on my behalf, unfortunately my work send me away to remote areas and was only able to contact anyone by sat phone, no internet.
I was under the impression everything was taken care of, clearly it wasn't and I can only apologise.
