Looking to run a 4WD trip from Strickland Spur Tk to Mt Terrible via Big River

Strickland Spur is a technical track with plenty of rock steps. You will need a good tyres and winch to tackle this track. We recommend minimum tyre size 33" or above. If you are running smaller tyres, we recommend your 4wd should have at least 1 locker fitted.

The plan is to camp at Big River area, and head to Mt Terrible on Sunday.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Last time I did this few years back in the Navara with 32s and no lockers, went home with a few battle scars.. It's not a track you tackle in the wet with small tyres and no lockers πŸ˜‚

Looking forward to giving it another crack.. This time, I won't be unprepared.

Hey Alex, you shouldnt have withdrawn as trip cant go ahead on the date Kelvin has listed unless he changes it to a daytrip only, as no camping allowed at this stage.

Yes no worries Allan /Alex... will be able to work around this let me get back to you all regarding this trip. I am still keen to do a overnighter but looks like it will be a few weeks away, may just change this to day trip, which still only allow 10 people (not car) so we have to tread carefully .....

Hi all, just a quick update. After checking the gov site regarding the new restriction of COVID19 in Victoria, it is now allowed to go for a drive as recreational activity and under 10 people. My main purpose and intention of this trip is (1. Snow and 2. Camping). I could change this to day trip but it really defeats the purpose. Thus. I will keep this trip as is, but it may not run for another 2-3 weeks I guess.

So if you are very keen for "just go for a drive", you are more than welcome to post a new day trip. I can point you to the right direction on the map,

Hi Marc and everyone on this trip, I have contacted Park Vic to confirm if we can use the campground at Big River area from 1st June. They are still waiting for clear instruction if this is the case or not, and should know about it in the coming days. So if we can use the campground, the trip will be likely on 12-13th June (the week after Queens Birthday) so stay away from the crowd.

Quick update, just got off the phone with Park Vic. They are currently assessing all the campgrounds and will determine which one will remain closed. They will announce it in the coming days on their website. For now, I will set this trip on 13th to 14th June (the week after Queens Birthday). If you cannot make it please withdraw from the trip (There is a Withdraw button on the right hand side of the trip page) to make room for others.... The Strickland Spur Track condition is quite bad based on the latest trip report so expect winching and a tough track to tackle. I am hoping there will be snow, if not, this trip will still go ahead. No worries Rayvan, I have sent you a PM. Hope we can see you next time.
Looking forward to this trip with everyone, it would be my first trip after the lockdown, so my skills may be a bit rusty :) .... hopefully there will be some snow but if not, it would still be a good weekend trip. If you can longer join, please withdraw from the trip to let others to join.
Now it's time to get your 4wd prep....

Hi all, looks like there won't be any snow this weekend but the trip is still going ahead. It would be great to do this loop, with the recent rains, the tracks will be wet and technical so expecting there will be winching on 1 section. Again, please make sure if you are commited to come, and arrive on time. If you are not sure, or you cannot camp, please withdraw from the trip to leave room for others. See you all on Sat 8am shape at Healsville Beechworth Bakery Carpark at the back. Feel free to send me message or post your question here.

Hi all, looks like we will have a good turn out, hope to see you all on Sat. As I mentioned in my previous post, if you are not sure if you can make it or not, or cannot camp, please withdraw and leave rooms for others. It's also good time to check over your vehicle, winch and recover gear. The track will be wet, so it's likely to be in "HARD" rating but I have done this track dozen times, so it's doable and not overly crazy. See you all on Sat 8am shape. Please also "Check in" so I know you are ready to go.
