BYO Recovery gear is MANDATORY
We will aim to finish by 4pm
We will be stopping for lunch so BYO food and water. I will be firing up my portable cooker and doing some grilling, so the lunch will be around 30 minutes...
All Trip Participants, including passengers, must wear fully enclosed footwear (e.g. sneakers, work type boots) whilst on this Trip.

Some of the planned tracks (and rating in dry or mild wet conditions)

Recovery Equipment:
The minimum requirement is one Snatch Strap, 2 Bow Shackles rated, a Dampener and Riggers Gloves (a full recovery kit is preferable and more appropriate, but not ssential). Riggers Gloves must be worn when dealing with recovery equipment or for track clearing if encountered. Equipment must be in very good condition.. If you don't have this recovery equipment do not join!!

VEHICLE & EQUIPMENT:
Your vehicle must be Roadworthy and appropriately set up for the trip (if you know of any mechanical or maintenance issues with your vehicle, you must have these fully resolved/rectified before the Trip). You will need ground clearance for the harder Tracks, therefore a suspension lift of at least 2 inches is strongly advised to avoid vehicle damage. Appropriate or Acceptable front and rear recovery points, for snatch strapping or winching, are essential. As mentioned above, due to the terrain of the State Forest a minimum of 33 A/T or Mud Tyres with very good tread depth are required. Tyres on or very close to roadworthy are not acceptable. Onboard UHF Radio, basic vehicle spares and tools, First Aid Kit and Fire Extinguisher. If you don't have 33' inch tyres and minimum 2 inch lift do not join!!

FOOD AND GENERAL PROVISIONS:
You need to be fully self-sufficient and bring enough Food, Water and Snacks for all persons in your vehicle for Lunch. You also need to bring sufficient Water for every person in your vehicle. .

hi Jacek,

Red Hill Tk - it is a lovely track but unfortunately has been closed for a few years and as I understand is still closed until further notice.

Phone Tk - are you planning up or down? I haven't been on it for many years but in my opinion going up will require at least 35s especially after the recent rain.

Steep Tk - same as Phone tk.

Tehan's Tks. They were fairly easy when we went in the dry a few months back but with the recent rain they will be interesting.

Wheeler's and Heffernan might be worth considering too.

Hey Wayne,

Thanks for letting me know about red hill, I heard that too, but checked few maps and it seems open on mapshare and vicroad traffic.... I might call the my park ranger contact to confirm. MapshareVic does not display it as a track so that could mean its no longer a track at all...

I did steep track in 33s (rear locked) in dry (selecting the easier tracks. It splits in couple of places so you can pick). In wet, you are right might be harder, but then we just winch (we will assess it on the day)

Phone track I did in wet and in dry on 33s with some struggle in wet (rear locked) (not the smily face and not ready for it yet) so again we will see what its like when we get there.

The other tracks are new to me so always good to try something new...

Postponed due to lack of interest. I did post this trip quite late as my cobaw trip did not fill up due to website technical problems and I created this as a substitute. Cobaw on 21st March I looking good now, and this trip will be a good test for my front locker which I am about to install this week before night trip in cobaw.

Jack, Red Hill is definitely permanently closed. A shame, but dems da rules. There are plenty of other tracks in Tallarook that are as hard, or harder, than Red Hill.

Re: Tehans No 2

I don't think No.2 is the 'hard' track but there is definately a hard track in the vicinity. I think it is one of the link tracks between 2 and 3 which starts off (from eastern side) quite easy down into a gully before you come to a very steep uphill section with lots of large loose rock/shale.

Re: hefferens/wheelers - not necessarily hard but have sections that can be technical (more so hefferens). Or it might be flats/dam tracks that I'm thinking of.

Mountain - medium
Phone - hard
Hefferens - not sure
Wheelers - not sure
Steep - hard
Jenkins - medium
Jenkins Link - medium
Jenkins to Rocky shortcut - hard
Rocky - medium

Quick Update... ARB is installing my locker and they found some issues they need to rectify, they told me that it should be ok for Friday night to pick up but there is a chance there might be delay. The trip will ho ahead conditionally if I can pick up the car on friday.

Ok so ARB told me yesterday that it looks like my car should be ok to pickup. I told them I am leading a trip so if any issues they would have been alarming me already. So it looks like the trip is on. Bring chainsaw if you have 1

As I said to Rodney, depending on how much rain we get we might not do some hardest tracks. They are not really far from each other so we might just drive there and assess them and if anyone wants to have a crack we can meet up at the beginning or the end of the track...

They were quite medium on a day. This other one track, not sure about the name, tested me pretty well. On 33s I broke the winch cable. Was diffing out, not much can be done on it as you have walls on both sides.
Almost at the end, after 2 hours, decided to reverse out of it as it was getting late...

Wow steep and ph. only medium, they must have been bone dry which is a surprise given the recent rain at my place, must have totally missed that area, farmers would have been spewing...
Did you do steep up or down?

Yeah they were very dry, that's why I attempted tha track that is not on the maps, between brandy track and tehans 2. It was too much for my 33s even in dry. And yeah always prefer and do hard tracks going up, no fun in using brakes...

hi Jack, was that the track near Tehan's No. 2?
The link track between tehans2 was bit better in the dry. One section proved a bit of pain. I ended up taking it on the left but lost momentum and my rear diff slid and got stack between 2 rocks. Winched and ended up shaving the metal from around the drain plug. It started leaking a bit, but was able to tighten the nut later on. Overall that track in dry is still good challenge...
