Ok, organising the First aid course for all those that are interested. I have been incontact with St.Johns re the course, our requirements and pricing. At this stage to confirm dates and pricing I need numbers of people interested. I know this is pending the available dates but without a show of numbers to present St.Johns I can't lock in a group discounted price. So if you are interested please join this 'Trip' course and we can sort out the dates soon.

    Jase,
I would be interested, but depending on dates.
If it's in March/April, I wouldn't be able to make it.

Ok all I have an update to share with you re the First Aid course. I have been in contact with a lot of different company's that provide training, after careful consideration I think that St.Johns offers the most appropriate course suited to our need. Instead of tring to explain it to you all I have copied the email that was sent to me and pasted it below. Basically it's a 2 day course but you first need a basic First Aid certificate before doing the remote course. If you don't have it it's a 1 day course that we can all do anytime prior or we can add it onto the other course making it 3 days.

Please read the below forwarded email and feel free to ask any questions if you like. Dates still to be sorted out.

How many of us don't have a basic first aid cert? And also is it 2 full days?
    14 Jan 2015
    Graeme (100Cruiser)
I was looking at doing the course for my wife and myself but we don't have the basic certificate required. The way I read the message we have to do both courses and it would cost close to $1200 for 2 of us to do the course. Getting a bit expensive.

    Trip Leader Jase (Jase69er)
Yes mate it looks to be that way. But I do understand that 1.2k is a lot of coin.

Antony, I have level 2 first aid but it isn't current so I'll need to redo or refresh.

WITHDRAWN from Trip - Reason: 3 days I don't have and it is getting a bit expensive for 2 of us

I tend to agree with the others that its getting a expensive when there is two of you, the course sounds great but i think most people were expecting a more basic course to start with. It might be worth thinking about arranging the basic course first for people to do and then at a later date the two day course for those that would like to do this. what are other peoples thoughts?

Sorry guys i will not be attending after talking to someone that just did a course and all the legal bullshit about helping someone that is injured in anyway its not worth the trouble that you can get into.

    Hi everyone,
I think the pricing is $395 per person. If we can get minimal 6 person to attend, they will open the course for us which is $2370 per course (i.e. $395 per person). I think it's reasonable considering this is a course for saving live. Imagine you are saving your family member's life, this $395 would be the best money you would ever spent in your life.
    I am in for sure.

    Hi Rupert,

I used to sell 1st aid training into businesses as well as 1st aid kits (also into businesses).

If you have been turned off by someone mentioning to you that you can be sued by simply administering 1st aid to someone....well, this is a miss truth.

You can not be sued in Australia for trying to save & or prevent further injury to a person or persons by performing first aid on them. If someone has attempted suicide (let's say by hanging for the sake of the exercise) & you arrive to find the person unconscious & not breathing but they have a faint pulse, so you perform CPR & revive them, call ambo who arrives & takes them to hospital, they survive but get upset that you saved them. They take you to court. They will lose. As far as I am aware there has never been a case where a first aider has been successfully sued for performing 1st aid on a person unless..........

You are Level 2 trained (Level 2 is called something different now) & in the same scenario as above, you think that you know as much as a doctor and you perform a trigianotrophy (spelling...but where you put a hole through their neck & stick a pen in there to open up the air passage). They survive however they have nerve damage, constant pain & lost their voice for life.

In this instance you would be successfully sued against as you performed 1st aid out side of you training (capabilities).

So the short answer is that common sense dictates here. By sticking to what you know, you can not be sued. This is Australia mate, not USA. Please ignore the rubbish that you have been told as they have miss interpreted what has been said to them.

The other thing is that you don't have to perform 1st aid on someone just because you have done the course. But if you have kids, a wife or husband, a mother, father, brother, mate, work colleague or anybody else that you care about & you can see that they need 1st aid, I bet you'll be glad that you've done the training.

In closing, Legal Crap is a misguided bit of info that you have received my friend.

I am happy to do the corse, do you know where they do It?
    15 Jan 2015
    Trip Leader Jase (Jase69er)
I don't hold anything against anyone that doesn't want to do the course. But for me I have experienced to many times people that could've been saved but lack of proper training has meant that they are no longer with us. I think that the money it costs is nothing when your son or daughter is bleeding out from head trama caused by a roll over up in the High Country, or you wife has a heart attack while you are driving the Simpson Desert. Harsh I know, but not uncommon....

At this stage we plan on splitting up the training and doing the 'Provide First Aid' separate to the more advanced 'Remote Frist Aid' course. At this stage I'm unable to book the course until I have solid confirmed numbers that plan to attend. I also plan on requesting that all training be provided on a weekend so as no one need to take time off of work.
    15 Jan 2015
    Trip Leader Jase (Jase69er)
Antony, still yet to confirm mate. If we can get the numbers then they are prepared to do 'on site training' which means they'll come to us.

Jase, I have attached this link from St.John showing all the courses.
    https://ssl.stjohnvic.com.au/training/workplace-courses-2014.jsp

I think what we do is to let everyone to complete their first PFA (Provide First Aid) at their own time. We will post a new trip for running a Remote First Aid course as it will require a minimal of 6 people. Those who wish to join the trip (course, in this case) should have obtained their PFA already. I will also add a new feature to allow participants to pay the organiser (i.e. you) via Paypal so that you can secure the booking.

Let me now what you thoughts are.
    15 Jan 2015
    Adam (Captain)
Kelvin, I think that's a great idea. Jase I don't think any one saying that the cost is not worth saving some ones life but it still has to fit in to peoples budgets. I certainly think first aid training should be put before the next upgrade to your 4wd.

Hey guys just spoke to St. John's, if people want to do their PFA they run it every second weekend ( Saturday 7th and 21st of February) in king st in the CBD or they run a corse at Dandenong on the first Saturday of the month. They also run every working day to. If anyone's keen to join me I will do my PFA on the 21st of February
