Tallarook state forest, VIC

Important Note!!:
Only join and participate in this trip at your own risk.
Every one will be responsible for their own safety.
Remember, as in any trip, if you or one of the trip members see that the track in front of them is too difficult, we will all choose different path.

I have been to Tallarook few times so have pretty good idea which tracks we will be attempting. There will be few tracks seasonally closed, but we can still find few challenging ones. Probably it's not as bad as toolangi where everything seems to be closed. Weather should be dry so the hard tracks should be less challenging than in the wet.

This trip is for experienced 4wd drivers with well setup and equipped 4wd cars!

Approximate distance:
50kms approximately (including tracks) from the meeting point.
Full Tank from Melbourne will be sufficient for this Trip

Trip Description:
This trip is categorised as medium to hard so it is required to have aggressive M/T or A/T Tyres and a working electric winch .
BYO Recovery gear is MANDATORY
We will aim to finish by 4pm
We will be stopping for lunch so BYO food and water.
All Trip Participants, including passengers, must wear fully enclosed footwear (e.g. sneakers, work type boots) whilst on this Trip.

Recovery Equipment:
The minimum requirement is one Snatch Strap, 2 Bow Shackles rated, a Dampener and Riggers Gloves (a full recovery kit is preferable and more appropriate, but not ssential). Riggers Gloves must be worn when dealing with recovery equipment or for track clearing if encountered. Equipment must be in very good condition.. If you don't have this recovery equipment do not join!!

VEHICLE & EQUIPMENT:
Your vehicle must be Roadworthy and appropriately set up for the trip (if you know of any mechanical or maintenance issues with your vehicle, you must have these fully resolved/rectified before the Trip). You will need ground clearance for the Hard Tracks, therefore a suspension lift of at least 2 inches is strongly advised to minimize vehicle damage. Appropriate or Acceptable front and rear recovery points, for snatch strapping or winching, are essential. Due to the terrain of Tallarook Forest a minimum of 33' Mud Tyres with very good tread depth are recommended. Tyres on or very close to roadworthy are not acceptable. Onboard UHF Radio, basic vehicle spares and tools, First Aid Kit and Fire Extinguisher. If you don't have 33' inch tyres and minimum 2 inch lift, you might have problems getting through some of the tracks and end up with car damage!

FOOD AND GENERAL PROVISIONS:
You need to be fully self-sufficient and bring enough Food, Water and Snacks for all persons in your vehicle for Morning Tea, Lunch and Afternoon Tea. You also need to bring sufficient Water for every person in your vehicle.

Updating the trip to hard, even though it will be dry, we are planning to do couple of really hard sections, and who knows if the weather holds up..

Rocky in tallarook is only medium level. The start from east is bit harder but the rest is easy

Ok, looks like we have a well equipped and hopefully experienced and ready for some serious challenge group. There are some tracks in my plan which I approached before but not yet attempted, and this time with drier weather and rear locker I am feeling more confident... but remember safety first and no pressure on the hardest tracks. Main thing is to have fun and come home safely. See you all tomorrow..

Phone tk was the easiest out of 4 hard challenges that we attempted, perhaps because it was very dry. The link tk between tehans 2 and brandy track was the hardest.

Not sure what track you are talking about re Phone track, as far as I know it is the one with the smiley face rock, there is no bypass and it runs from the bottom all the way up to the tower at the top. Well that the one I know as Phone track and have done a few times

Phone track has 2 hard sections at the top, first 1 is smiley face and is just the hardest thing in tallarook IMO... second branches of to the left as well just at the top before flat section and it's about half the length of the smiley face, we had 1 car attempt it yesterday. The hardest track we did yesterday and I was talking about, have a look at the file I uploaded, the unfinished track most to the right is the one that I decided to reverse down the hill and not delay the trip anymore, as no way on 33s you could get through..

Can't see the file properly, its too small and narrow on my laptop.
Never even realised there was a bypass for the hard section, must be too focused on the challenge ahead.
And don't say no way on 33's, I have done it several times on 32's ;-)

I don't think we are talking about the same track, but lets move on... perhaps one day you will have a chance to come with me to Tallarook or Toolangi and show me how its done ;-)

I hope you got over this https://4x4earth.com/forum/index.php?threads/looking-for-off-road-mates.46085/#post-623067 already. You seemed to take it very personally...

All Good Jason. Next one is Cobaw again for me... Probably some time in October. I want to try Alcorns in dry weather, will post it on FB as well when posted here on 4wdtrip... See you soon.

Na not to personally and am totally over it, I just get a little annoyed when people assume and dictate what others are or are not capable of without even giving the courtesy of a discussion.
Anyway glad you had a good day with no damage and yes one day I am more than happy to show you around Toolangi
