Recovery gear items - Check List

Hi all,

Wet season has finally arrived. Before you head out, make sure you have carried sufficient supplies and recovery gear. Below is a quick check list. Depends on the type of trips you are doing, some of the items below may not be necessary. 

 

  • Snatch Strap

  • Winch Extension Strap

  • Tree Truck Protector

  • Shackle

  • Recovery Board (e.g Maxtrax, TRED)  

  • Hi-lift Jack

  • Air-Jack / Exhaust Jack 

  • Damper

  • Gloves

  • Snatch Block

  • Recovery Hitch

  • Shovel & Axe

  • Tyre deflator / Repair Kit

  • Compressor

  • First-aid kit

  • Sand Flag (Sand/beach driving)

  • Torch / Light

  • GPS Navigation Unit

  • Map

  • Hand-winch

  • Recovery Gear Carry Bag

  • Personal Satellite Communicator (e.g. Satellite Phone, SPOT device)

  • Chainsaw

  • Drag chain

Not sure if it's worth adding to that already very helpful list but I always carry a Chainsaw & Drag Chain during winter as the tracks often have trees down.

And knowing how to use each item. I have no idea how to repair a car tyre or tube, its been a long long time since pushbike days.

Couldn't agree more. Visiting your local 4WD specialist often to discuss these kind of things helps a lot in this sticky situations.

some times its worth carrying the gear even if you dont know how to use it. someone else might know how and help you out, but if nobody has the gear ??? I do agree though, knowing how to operate the equipment you carry is a good idea.
