Time to conquer Low Saddle. MEDIUM / HARD

Walhalla, VIC

As I have had to postpone our HC trip originally set for that weekend, have decided to run a daytrip to drive a track that I have not driven for over 8 years called Low Saddle Tk. This track is a seasonally closed track but was permanently closed for a number of years. Last year a group of us attempted it, but it was too wet and slippery, so we had to turn back.

The basic plan for the day is a reasonably small loop with the other tracks being Deep Ck 1 & 4, (to check condition before our HC trip), then onto Fultons and Beardmores before finishing the day with Low Saddle. From there we then head home with the plan being back on the 'black top' by about 3pm; all going well. Minimum vehicle requirements for this trip are as follows;

VEHICLE:    32" A/T or M/T tyres, low range, some lift, (body or suspension) & full recovery gear.   Traction aid and snorkle preferred but not  mandatory.

As per all my trip, participants must 'CHECK IN' at least 24 hrs prior to start of trip to confirm their attendance or they will be removed and sombody else given the opportunity to attend. Feel free to bring partners/family etc, but sorry NO DOGS/PETS. Everyone must be self sufficent with food/water as we will have a short lunchbreak hopefully near a river. Last fuel available is in Moe so I suggest everyone tops up there even though we will only travel 100+ kays during the day from Erica.

At this stage, I am limiting the trip to 4 as I am sending invites to a couple of others, but if they dont wish to take part, I will increase numbers to 6 or 8. All drivers must be experienced and trip is not suitable for those new to 4wding.

Any questions feel free to ask.

Fun track. We did it early in Jan. It's been graded fairly recently, so was an easy drive even in the Patrol in stock trim. The only bit that had me a little anxious was the crossing. With no snorkel, and a notoriously deep crossing, even the shallowest line was sketchy.

Are you sure you want to be venturing in there though? Walhalla and Thompson fires are still burning and it's smack bang in the middle of them both.

All ok with the fires Winston, checked yesterday. Remember the river crossing was deep many years ago so obviously it hasn't changed, thanks for update.

Am going to increase numbers to 6

Ok, all good Allan, just want to make sure you and your convoy are safe. They're in excellent hands with you.

Yes, when you do the crossing there are 2 fairly distinct lines to take, the one closest to Erica (the right line if coming from Erica end, left line if coming from Walhalla) is the shallower of the two.

It looks like we are going to have great weather,about 29 and sunny. 'Check in' should be available tomorrow, so please make sure you do so by the cut off time and please arrive at Erica pub on time so we can 'have wheels turning' by 9.15am after introductions/driver briefing etc.

Hopefully we all will enjoy the trip.
