Step up on Deep Creek 1

G'day. We will be meeting at Moe at 9:15am to leave by 9:30am heading to Rawson and in via Happy Jack Track and Coopers Creek to drive Deep Creek 1 and Deep Creek 4 Track. If we have time we will also drive Deep Creek 2 and Deep Creek 5 Track. Heading out at the end of the day via Fultons Creek Track. Depending on the time of day we may stop at Rawson Stockmans Hotel or Erica Hotel on the way home for a drink and or dinner if anyone wants to join us. Note: Current Rooftops Map has 2 warnings regarding Deep Creek tracks stating they are steep, slippery and dangerous and that people have died here. They have been graded since those warnings and we will be taking extreme care on the difficult sections but if you are not experienced or have an inclination to be stupid or not follow instruction please opt out of this trip. Clearance is generally not an issue but if you have smaller tyres then please have a working winch. Otherwise 33 or bigger muddies and recovery gear should do. We will be out most of the day so bring food, water and whatever else you may need. Number of vehicles has been limited for both time and safety reasons.

I did a trip around wallhala last weekend with a few mates, did deep creek 1 and 4, most tracks in the area have had a lot of work and gradding done so are easy for the most part, that would change dramaticaly with a good dump of rain in which case the trip should be cancelled to prevent major track damage which would give the boffins yet another reason to close them down for good.
Have a great trip guys, 1 of my favorite places to go wheeling.

Sure have Jason. I went out for a look around yesterday, apart from the hill on Deep Creek 1 everything was freshly bulldozed and I spent a lot of the time in 2wd. Am considering doing Deep Creek Tracks 1, 2, 4, & 5 only problem is they all really need to be done from South to North which means a lot of doubling back.

What does everyone think of changing the end point? We'd still meet at Moe at the same time, head to Rawson and go in down Happy Jack Tk, head past Coopers Creek Hotel for a happy snap, then do Deep Creek 1 and Deep Creek 4, double back to do Deep Creek 2 and Deep Creek 5. Then head out via Fulton's Creek Tk to the Thomson Reservoir. Back out toward Moe via Rawson again.

We should fit them all in, if it's getting late we'll skip a couple, see on the day, everything has been dozed up there very recently so it's only the few steep bits and creek that will slow us down. Was only doing 3 tracks but after seeing them the other day I decided that was too easy. Look forward to meeting you.

Yeh it will be good to meet you too,Jimmy speaks highly of you ,I am trying to teach him to have more respect for his 4wd,s but I'm loosing that one ha ha . Which creek will slow us down? I am more of a steep and technical track sort of guy not so much bog holes it going to be good not having near stock IFS vehicles on this trip it looks like we can all go pretty hard , can't wait.

Lol, good luck with that one Allan, there are a few people trying to teach him that. No bog holes on this trip, that I know of anyway. Just the step out of the creek (picture in trip description) will take a little while with the number of vehicles, the actually creek is pretty easy. Apart from that yeah a few very steep hills, a bit of rocky terrain and a couple of shallow creek crossings.

Hour in neerim south sounds good allan did a few tracks Friday night starting to dry out a but now mostly clay based mud hills with big ruts diffed out alot on 35s n 37s I know the area quiet well can show ya around with shorty

No worries Dave, we are not going into Walhalla at all. We will go in via Happy Jack Track off Thompson Valley Rd just North of Rawson then down to Coopers Creek Hotel so you can meet us at the intersection of Moe Walhalla, Thomson Valley, Knotts Siding Rd (Rawson turn off for short) or at the intersection of Thomson Valley Rd & Happy Jacks Track. I won't be able to stay Saturday night Jason but if anyone else wants to your more than welcome to organise it, we will be coming out across the wall of the Thomson Dam at the end of the day, so right near Merringtons, O'Tooles, etc. Which are great campsites.
