Join 4WD TRIP - Dargo to Thomson dam (TREXGQ)

Dargo to Thomson dam MEDIUM / HARD

Starting in dargo, finishing at the Thomson dam wall. Cars must be set up with good tyres (good condition), raised suspension, good working winch, a full recovery kit and enough fuel for 2 full days of driving. We will be in the high country in winter for 2 days, it will be cold so pack accordingly.

Note: there will be plenty of hill climb so I would recommend not to carry too heavy items on your roof. Rooftop tent is not preferable but if you think your truck is capable enough, it should be fine. Also, there may be some deep water crossing. I don't normally like deep water crossing but if we have no choice, we may have to cross them. So make sure you have snorkel and they are water tight. Double check your winch and see if it's in good condition. Check all the recovery gear, and inspect your vehicle.

Hi guys,
As you know, I will help Antony to run this trip. Unfortunately I have to go back to work on Monday so I have to change the trip to 2 days instead of 3. You are welcome to stay behind. Also, I will add one more spot for Dave who have his trip cancelled due to lack of interest.
I will meet Dave to camp on Friday night near Dargo. It may be too much driving on Sat. If you would like to join our camping, please let me know.

Colin, i probably wont even get into Dargo until 9ish, so by the time i set up and get a fire going, it will invariably be quite late. TBH i'm usually pretty keen for a drink or 2 on Friday after the week at work so i'll stick with italian flat...

Folks, do you know where the best/last place to get alpine diesel is coming from melbourne? i assume it'll get pretty cold where ever we are camping on the Saturday night. at the moment both dargo and licola are only saying 1 degree but i'm assuming it might be a little colder on the Saturday night. - i can always grab some at dargo hotel in the morning but it might be more expensive than previous servos.

Dave, to be on the safe side, top up in Sale as plenty of the servos open late there. There is a BP at Stratford but not sure what time it closes; 8pm rings a bell. Then if need be, top up in Dargo but it is very expensive. Last time I was there it was about 40cpl dearer than Stratford/Sale.

I have joined the trip but need to confirm I can get Friday off to replace the front uni joints, they have developed a vibration after changing the front radius arms, will confirm first thing Thursday morning to give others a chance if I cant get things sorted.
I wont go away 4wding if the car is not 100% OK

I am going to bring some fire wood for Friday night, nothing worse than trying to collect wood in the dark and then starting a fire with wet timber. If most of us bring a little bit we wont have to collect any Friday.
I am not putting on my roof rack, it has been off for a while due to having to park in the city for work but I am happy to throw a few logs in the back of the car close to camp Saturday night.
I will have my chain saw but 1 or 2 more would be handy for potential track clearing

Hi again... we may travel up to 100km on Sat mixed with low and high range. My aim is to stay at Muttonwood campground north of Licola. If we ran out of time there are a few camps around 50km away from Dargo. So keep that in mind and bring enough fuel with you. Also depending on the group preference I may consider to do a few tracks near Licola on Sunday instead of heading to Thompson dam. Again we will discuss on Sat. Ask if you have any questions.
