Wonangatta EASY / MEDIUM

Wonangatta, VIC

Nice weekend end away hopefully camping in the Wonangatta (will be around there cup weekend so will have a look at track conditions to find the easiest route in and out). Though the tracks are quite steep in sections last time I drove them they were in very good condition so as long as your car has low range I can't see a problem. I will be going up Friday night and camping close to Dargo, if possible I recommend that others do the same. This is more of an explore for people who don't know the area with more stock cars.

Mark, Wonnangatta Valley is huge with many camping options; best ones are close to the river, and many people take camper trailers in there, so I reckon there will be enough room for your tent, no matter where you guys decide to set up camp.

Antony, Would you would like me bring some wood for the fire mate?

Poly tarp is fine, that time
Of year should not be a problem but just a precaution, and no need for wood, we won't need much and there is plenty up there

Should be a good trip mark. Will be a lot of sight seeing as I plan to stop by Harrison's cutting, grant, crooked river and Howitt hut. If we leave early enough Sunday and are making good ground and everyone has enough fuel may even try go to the pinnacles. Wouldn't be a bad idea if people carried a spare jerry can of fuel, will be finishing in licola where there is fuel but just to be safe. If needed I will have room on my ute.

Yer pretty close mark but probably won't do hern spur and will go past grant so people can have a look. If we can all meet up at the pub on Friday night will probables stay at black flat otherwise will just camp at Italian. Best place for fuel is Stratford and depending on tank size and fuel type I would recommend 2 jerrys of fuel. I will be up there late November and will decide on a final route.

Just a question for you. Best advice on where to carry extra Jerry's when i dont have a roof rack or spare jerry holder?

Allow about 250 km from dargo to licola, that's including a stop to the pinnacles. To be safe make sure you have enough fuel for around 350/400 kms. I know dargo has diesel, unsure about unleaded or gas but probably best to fill up at Stratford as it would probably be cheaper. There is fuel at licola where we will be finishing if needed.

Alright guys can I please have confirmation on who will be heading up Friday night? I will hopefully be there by 8. Am planning on staying at Italian flat camp ground but if to busy will keep going to find a free one. Am happy to meet people at dargo pub and head to camp from there. Though we are in summer please pack
Some warm clothes just incase (this includes sleeping, doonas, etc). can everyone please top up at Stratford. Will be a full day driving in low range on Saturday and half day on Sunday so make sure you have enough fuel (400 highway kms worth) if need will have room on my ute to store jerrys. Unfortunately my compressors on its last legs so unless anyone else is willing to share please make sure you have an air compressor. Last but not least if you can have at least 10l of water. Well will see all on the weekend!

Kevin there is no base camp we will be camping in the Wonnangatta Saturday night and hopefully staying near the homestead. Best way is head to
Licola, up tamboritha rd to howwit rd, follow howwit Rs to zeka spur track and zeka spur will take you into the Wonnangatta. This is about 7 hour drive from Melbourne.

It appears that i didnt apologize for not showing up to this trip. I didn't show up for this trip due to my brake master cylinder leaking i didnt want to risk a failure out on the tracks. i didn't finish work till 7pm on the friday night and would not Have been sufficient time to fix it and get out to dargo. I was later told that i was waited for 1 hr before they headed off. For this im sorry.
