Mt Disappointment MEDIUM / HARD

Mt Disappointment State Forest, VIC

I am heading out to Mt Disappointment, if you want to come along and explore tracks with me, come and join me on this saturday trip.

This trip is for experienced 4wd drivers with well setup and equipped 4wd cars!

Important Note:
Only join and participate in this trip at your own risk.
Every one will be responsible for their own safety.
Remember, as in any trip, if you or one of the trip members see that the track in front of them is too difficult, we will all choose different path.

Approximate distance:
50kms approximately (including tracks) from the meeting point.
Full Tank from Melbourne will be sufficient for this Trip

Trip Description:
This trip is categorised as medium to hard(due to the unknown tracks that we might come accross) so it is required to have Mud Tyres and a working electric winch .
BYO Recovery gear is MANDATORY
We will aim to finish by 4pm
We will be stopping for lunch so BYO food and water.
No alcohol is allowed on this trip
All Trip Participants, including passengers, must wear fully enclosed footwear (e.g. sneakers, work type boots) whilst on this Trip.

Recovery Equipment:
The minimum requirement is one Snatch Strap, 2 Bow Shackles rated, a Dampener and Riggers Gloves (a full recovery kit is preferable and more appropriate, but not ssential). Riggers Gloves must be worn when dealing with recovery equipment or for track clearing if encountered. Equipment must be in very good condition.. If you don't have this recovery equipment do not join!!

VEHICLE & EQUIPMENT:
Your vehicle must be Roadworthy and appropriately set up for the trip (if you know of any mechanical or maintenance issues with your vehicle, you must have these fully resolved/rectified before the Trip). You will need ground clearance for the Hard Tracks, therefore a suspension lift of at least 2 inches is strongly advised to minimize vehicle damage. Appropriate or Acceptable front and rear recovery points, for snatch strapping or winching, are essential. Due to the terrain of Mt Disapointment Forest a minimum of 33' Mud Tyres with very good tread depth is required. Tyres on or very close to roadworthy are not acceptable. Onboard UHF Radio, basic vehicle spares and tools, First Aid Kit and Fire Extinguisher. If you don't have 33' inch tyres and minimum 2 inch lift do not join!!

FOOD AND GENERAL PROVISIONS:
You need to be fully self-sufficient and bring enough Food, Water and Snacks for all persons in your vehicle for Morning Tea, Lunch and Afternoon Tea. You also need to bring sufficient Water for every person in your vehicle. Weather can be very unpredictable in the mountains so please bring a warm article of clothing, like a jacket or coat, to protect you from the cold.

There is a chance that there will be 10-20ml rain on Saturday around Wallan, so similar should apply to Mt Disa. If the forecast does not change, I will be postponing this trip until next Saturday. I will decide on Thursday and update the trip details.

WITHDRAWN from Trip - Reason: I thought my differential would be ok now, till I find a piece of metal in my diff oil. I need to take care of this before I can hit any trail.

Another one with 33's minimum , what a joke...
Any decent 4wder can drive nearly any track with smaller tires, after years of practice I know I can drive pretty much any track with 32's .
Maybe a minimum experience requirement would be more appropriate than a minimum size tire...

Though I have to admit, I could not clear bump when it got washed away and my front diff had its ass scraped on some pretty sharp rocks while winching on 33s. But i had diff protector and did not give a shit

Mate if you are not happy with the requirement please refrain yourself from putting comment like this... yes we know how good 4wder you are...

I think that's correct, minimum requirements are there for a reason.. after rethinking it, probably I cannot allow you, Matt on this trip, as you might have problems with clearing some of the tracks and your experience might not be enough. You should never underestimate Mt Disappointment tracks...

Some nice videos, some of the commentary says it all, some pretty average lines taken, no wonder some need big tires...
Sorry don't take offence but I still maintain that experience is more important than any mod

Because I dared make the exact same point, experience should prevail over mods...
But anyway there are all types of personalities and different opinions and in this politically correct and over regimented world some can't handle when others post a opinion and get all defensive.
Thats OK if people don't take things as a personal attack but so many these days are just to soft and can't take any form of constructive criticism.
On another note, there are many here who wont go out with Jason for various reasons, as I am sure there are some that ignore the trips I post .
He posted that as a personal attack because thats the type of person he is, Did you care to read any of the other feed back?
I will have nothing further to post regarding this topic

Thank you Matt, perhaps now you understand that Kelvin setup this site so that beginners can also join and not to be intimidated by such straigh shooters and so called experts like yourself. I still believe you would not clear the bump withouting hitting your diffs on 32s. But then again you might tell me you would do it in a sedan.
